## What it does

skills-search looks for relevant skills in configured owned repositories first, then trusted repositories, and uses the CCPM registry only if the search still needs to expand. It can list popular or recent packages, inspect a candidate, and install, update, or remove skills.

For local discovery, it runs `local_sources.py` with `uv`, checks scan coverage, and reads the selected candidate’s `SKILL.md`. It verifies whether a discovered skill is already installed before attempting an install. Incomplete local coverage is a reason to fix repository configuration rather than treat the result as empty.

Registry actions use `ccpm`; when it is not installed globally, the skill falls back to `npx @daymade/ccpm`. After an installation, it tells the user to restart Claude Code or open a new conversation.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill skills-search -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skills-search/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skills-search/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill skills-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skills-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill skills-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skills-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daymade/claude-code-skills skills-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skills-search/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill skills-search -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills --path daymade-skill/skills-search
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skills-search/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill skills-search -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills/tree/HEAD/daymade-skill/skills-search/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find a skill for PDF work
- search local skill repositories before using a registry
- list popular or recently updated skills
- install a skill at project scope
- update or uninstall an installed skill

## Example prompts
- Find skills for PDF work and check my local repositories first.
- Show popular skills through `ccpm`.
- Install `@daymade/skill-creator` for the current project.

# Skills Search — Agent Behavioral Directives

## Local repositories first

For capability discovery or experience reuse, read
[local repository search](references/local-repository-search.md) and execute its
helper. Resolve the Skill directory from this loaded bundle, not an installed
path guessed from memory.

```bash
uv run --script <skill-dir>/scripts/local_sources.py list
uv run --script <skill-dir>/scripts/local_sources.py search '<capability>' --tier owned
```

Search **every enabled repository in the owned tier** before choosing a candidate.
Read the returned `coverage`, examined counts and exact commit. A missing source,
bad configuration or interrupted scan is incomplete coverage, not "no Skill".
The default installation directory is an inventory, not the user's complete
source catalog. Configure all repositories the user named; do not stop after a
hit in the first one or silently infer paths for another machine.

Use progressive disclosure: catalog name/description → selected `SKILL.md` at
its returned commit → only the relevant linked reference/script. Metadata scores
rank candidates; read the capability, inputs, ownership and verification before
deciding it fits. Update a suitable existing Skill; create a new Skill when none
fits, rather than stuffing the workflow into an unrelated owner.

If this layer cannot resolve the remaining task, search configured `trusted`
repositories, then use the existing CCPM search below. Record why expansion was
needed; do not send private paths, repository names or contents to the registry.
Do not use an external hit to hide a failed local scan.

## CCPM preparation (only when needed)

For external registry discovery or an explicitly requested install/update/manage
operation, check `command -v ccpm`. If unavailable, `npx @daymade/ccpm` is the
existing CLI fallback. Local lookup needs neither CCPM nor registry credentials.
Use `npx @daymade/ccpm setup` only when the user requests ecosystem setup: it
also configures integrations and is not a prerequisite for an offline search.

## Core Behavior

Execute the selected local helper or `ccpm` command yourself through the shell.
Do not ask the user to copy-paste a command you can run within the task's authorization.

If `ccpm` is not globally installed, use `npx @daymade/ccpm` as a drop-in replacement for all commands below.

## Intent Mapping

Match the user's intent to the correct action:

| User Intent | Action |
|-------------|--------|
| "find skills for X" / "search X skills" / reuse before writing a Skill | Owned repositories → configured trusted repositories → `ccpm search <query>` if still needed |
