## What it does

This skill evaluates any other skill against the Legal Skill Design Framework. Thirteen parameters: the first nine cover substantive design, the tenth is Trust Surface (execution permissions and injection risk), the eleventh is Freshness of bundled reference content, the twelfth is whether `SKILL.md` has the structure a well-built skill needs, the thirteenth is Conflicts with skills already installed. You get a dependency map and a three-band verdict: Ready, Some Concern, Material Concerns.

Input can be a path to a skill directory, a path to a single `SKILL.md`, or pasted content. Give it only the `SKILL.md` and it asks once about associated commands, agents and hooks, because dependency mapping and automatic triggers stay incomplete without them. Then it reads `commands/*.md`, `agents/*.md`, `hooks/hooks.json` and the practice profile at `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md`.

Before judging design, it runs a prompt-injection heuristic scan: instruction overrides, authority claims, edits to configs outside the skill, reads and writes beyond the skill directory, external URLs, hidden content. That scan is not a security audit and promises nothing. It surfaces text for a human to read. The same scan fires at update time, not just install time.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill skills-qa -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skills-qa/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill skills-qa -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill skills-qa -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal skills-qa
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill skills-qa -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path legal-builder-hub/skills/skills-qa
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill skills-qa -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/legal-builder-hub/skills/skills-qa/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide whether a registry skill is safe to install
- check your own skill before handing it to the team
- spot overlap between a new skill and installed ones
- see which files and hooks a skill reads or runs
- catch an injection attempt buried in someone's `SKILL.md`

## Example prompts
- vet the skill at `.claude/skills/foo`
- review this `SKILL.md` and tell me if it's well designed
- run `/skills-qa` on the skill content I pasted

  Evaluate a skill against the Legal Skill Design Framework — thirteen design
  parameters (including trust-surface, freshness, schema validation, and
  conflict detection), three legal failure modes, and a three-band verdict
  (Ready / Some Concern / Material Concerns). Use when deciding whether to
  trust a community skill before installing it, before deploying a first-party
  skill to your team, or whenever the user asks "should I trust this?" or
  "is this skill well-designed?". Runs automatically as part of
  /legal-builder-hub:skill-installer.
argument-hint: "[skill path | SKILL.md path | paste content]"

# /skills-qa

## Inputs accepted

- File path to a skill directory (preferred — enables full dependency mapping)
- File path to a SKILL.md only
- SKILL.md content pasted directly into the conversation

## Context to load

- `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → practice profile and installed skills list (provides context
  for evaluating whether the skill fits the user's team and workflow, and
  whether it duplicates something already installed)

## Notes

This QA check runs automatically as part of `/legal-builder-hub:skill-installer`. You can also run it directly on any skill before deciding whether to install, or on a first-party skill before deploying to your team.
Run it deliberately — before incorporating any community skill you did not build,
or before deploying a first-party skill to your team.

If the user runs `/legal-builder-hub:skill-installer` and then asks "should I trust
this?" or "is this well-designed?", route to this skill rather than answering
inline.

## Purpose

Anyone can build a skill. This one checks whether it was built well before it
touches your workflows.

Evaluates any skill against the Legal Skill Design Framework: **thirteen
design parameters** (the first nine are substantive design; the tenth is Trust Surface — the skill's execution permissions and injection risk; the eleventh is Freshness — whether bundled reference content is current; the twelfth is Schema — whether the SKILL.md has the structure a well-built skill needs; the thirteenth is Conflicts — whether the skill overlaps or conflicts with skills already installed), **three
legal-specific failure modes**, a dependency map, and a
clear verdict. Works for community skills from registries and first-party skills
