## What it does

This skill defines workflows for building Claude Code skills. It lays out the `.claude/skills/{skill-name}/SKILL.md` structure, YAML frontmatter fields, and the 500-line limit for core skill files. Deeper instructions stay in referenced docs through progressive disclosure.

The underlying system relies on five hooks written in TypeScript and Shell. The `UserPromptSubmit` hook evaluates prompts against keyword lists before Claude sees them. When a skill uses the `block` enforcement level, the `PreToolUse` guard returns exit code 2 to stop Edit or Write operations until the skill runs. Subsequent `PostToolUse` scripts reset the pending block list.

Rules, priority tiers, and file glob patterns live in `.claude/skills/skill-rules.json`. Running test payloads through `npx tsx` is necessary to prevent malformed regex patterns from breaking prompt triggers.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --skill skill-developer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/skill-developer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --skill skill-developer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --skill skill-developer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase skill-developer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --skill skill-developer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --path .claude/skills/skill-developer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase --skill skill-developer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/diet103/claude-code-infrastructure-showcase/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/skill-developer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Structure SKILL.md files according to Anthropic 500-line guidelines
- Configure prompt triggers and glob rules in skill-rules.json
- Block unverified file modifications via PreToolUse exit code 2
- Test TypeScript activation hooks using isolated prompt payloads

## Example prompts
- Create a new guardrail skill to verify database column names
- Add regex intent patterns to skill-rules.json for frontend rules
- How do I test skill-verification-guard.ts using sample tool input?

description: Create and manage Claude Code skills following Anthropic best practices. Use when creating new skills, modifying skill-rules.json, understanding trigger patterns, working with hooks, debugging skill activation, or implementing progressive disclosure. Covers skill structure, YAML frontmatter, trigger types (keywords, intent patterns, file paths, content patterns), enforcement levels (block, suggest, warn), hook mechanisms (UserPromptSubmit, PreToolUse), session tracking, and the 500-line rule.

# Skill Developer Guide

## Purpose

Comprehensive guide for creating and managing skills in Claude Code with auto-activation system, following Anthropic's official best practices including the 500-line rule and progressive disclosure pattern.

## When to Use This Skill

Automatically activates when you mention:
- Creating or adding skills
- Modifying skill triggers or rules
- Understanding how skill activation works
- Debugging skill activation issues
- Working with skill-rules.json
- Hook system mechanics
- Claude Code best practices
- Progressive disclosure
- YAML frontmatter
- 500-line rule

## System Overview

### Hook Architecture (five wired hooks)

**1. UserPromptSubmit Hook** (Proactive Suggestions)
- **File**: `.claude/hooks/skill-activation-prompt.ts`
- **Trigger**: BEFORE Claude sees user's prompt
- **Purpose**: Suggest relevant skills based on keywords + intent patterns (regex or optional AI classification)
- **Method**: Injects formatted reminder as context (stdout → Claude's input)
- **Enforcement**: Only `enforcement: "block"` skills are marked MANDATORY; `suggest`/`warn` skills always appear as recommendations

**2. PreToolUse Hook - Skill Verification Guard** (Enforcement)
- **File**: `.claude/hooks/skill-verification-guard.ts`
- **Trigger**: BEFORE Edit/MultiEdit/Write executes
- **Purpose**: Enforce mandatory skill activation (two-try model) and guardrail file/content patterns; optional AI edit analysis
- **Method**: Exit code 2 + stderr blocks the tool; only `enforcement: "block"` skills can block

**3. PostToolUse Hook - Edit Tracker**
- **File**: `.claude/hooks/post-tool-use-tracker.sh`
- **Trigger**: AFTER Edit/MultiEdit/Write completes
- **Purpose**: Track edited files and repos (feeds build checks and the error-handling reminder)

**4. PostToolUse Hook - Skill Activation Tracker**
- **File**: `.claude/hooks/skill-activation-tracker.ts`
- **Trigger**: AFTER the Skill tool runs
- **Purpose**: Clear the activated skill from pending lists so the guard stops blocking

**5. Stop Hook - Session Doc Updater**
- **File**: `.claude/hooks/session-doc-updater.ts`
```
