## What it does

The skill splits validation by timing. Before you launch, `preflight_checker.py` reads the config and looks at required keys, parameter ranges, write access to the output directory, and free disk space. A `BLOCK` status means do not start. `WARN` lets you proceed if you record the accepted risk.

While the job runs, `runtime_monitor.py` parses the log for residual growth, NaN/Inf, overflow, and adaptive time-step collapse. Thresholds come from `--residual-growth` and `--dt-drop`. Once it finishes, `result_validator.py` checks physical bounds, mass conservation, and convergence; for Allen-Cahn and Cahn-Hilliard models the `--variational` flag enforces a monotone non-increasing energy. When checks fail, `failure_diagnoser.py` returns probable causes and fixes.

Python 3.10+ is required and nothing outside the standard library. One caveat matters: `preflight_checker.py` does not evaluate numerical stability. It skips CFL and the diffusion-Fourier limit entirely — that lives in a separate `cfl_checker.py` under `skills/core-numerical/numerical-stability/scripts/`. Gate stability there, or a clean pre-flight `PASS` will read as more assurance than it is.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --skill simulation-validator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/simulation-validator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/simulation-validator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --skill simulation-validator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/simulation-validator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --skill simulation-validator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/simulation-validator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills simulation-validator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/simulation-validator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --skill simulation-validator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --path skills/simulation-workflow/simulation-validator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/simulation-validator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HeshamFS/materials-simulation-skills --skill simulation-validator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- catch a broken config before burning a night on the run
- spot NaN or Inf in the log while the job is still going
- confirm mass and energy did not drift during the solve
- work out why a simulation blew up at step 1000
- tell a converged result from garbage before analysis

## Example prompts
- Check `simulation.json` before launch: required `dt,dx,kappa`, ranges `dt:1e-6:1e-2`, and at least 1 GB free
- Read `simulation.log` and tell me if the residual is climbing or the time step is collapsing
- Validate `results.json` with bounds 0 to 1 and mass tolerance 1e-3, and add `--variational` for the Allen-Cahn model

# Simulation Validator

## Goal

Provide a three-stage validation protocol: pre-flight checks, runtime monitoring, and post-flight validation for materials simulations.

## Requirements

- Python 3.10+
- No external dependencies (uses Python standard library only)
- Works on Linux, macOS, and Windows

## Inputs to Gather

Before running validation scripts, collect from the user:

| Input | Description | Example |
|-------|-------------|---------|
| Config file | Simulation configuration (JSON/YAML) | `simulation.json` |
| Log file | Runtime output log | `simulation.log` |
| Metrics file | Post-run metrics (JSON) | `results.json` |
```
