## What it does

Inngest is a platform for serverless-first background tasks. The skill teaches your agent its core concepts: events as primitives, steps as durable checkpoints, built-in sleep and retry logic, automatic fan-out. Examples cover Next.js, Express, Hono, Remix, SvelteKit, and deployments to Vercel, Cloudflare Workers, Netlify, Railway, Fly.io.

The skill includes basic function setup with typed events, multi-step workflows with parallel steps and error handling, scheduled functions (cron), and webhook handlers with deduplication. Examples demonstrate sending a welcome email after 24 hours, processing orders with inventory and payment checks, daily digests, and Stripe webhook handling. Requires Node.js and Inngest SDK installed.

Key consideration: step results are stored remotely, so avoid secrets and personal data in durable outputs. Webhook events require server-side validation, and use provider idempotency keys for payments—workflow deduplication does not guarantee exactly-once delivery for external side effects.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill inngest -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/inngest/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/inngest/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill inngest -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/inngest/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill inngest -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/inngest/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills inngest
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/inngest/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill inngest -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --path skills/inngest
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/inngest/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill inngest -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- set up a background task triggered by an event
- build a multi-step workflow with checks and parallel steps
- handle webhooks without duplicating payments or messages
- run a scheduled task (cron)
- add sleep and retry to async processes

## Example prompts
- Help me set up an Inngest function that sends a welcome email when a user signs up
- Create a workflow to process an order: check inventory, charge payment, and ship it
- Set up a Stripe webhook handler with deduplication

# Inngest Integration

Inngest expert for serverless-first background jobs, event-driven workflows,
and durable execution without managing queues or workers.

These are source sketches for a version-pinned SDK, not a complete deployable application. Supply reviewed database/email/payment adapters and compile against the installed SDK. Events and webhook payloads require server-side validation and authorization. Verify provider signatures before enqueueing webhook events. Keep secrets and unnecessary personal data out of durable step outputs; these may be retained remotely.

## Principles

- Events are the primitive - everything triggers from events, not queues
- Steps are your checkpoints - each step result is durably stored
- Sleep is not a hack - Inngest sleeps are real, not blocking threads
- Retries are automatic - but you control the policy
- Functions are just HTTP handlers - deploy anywhere that serves HTTP
- Concurrency is a first-class concern - protect downstream services
- Workflow deduplication does not make external side effects exactly-once; use provider idempotency keys and reconcile uncertain outcomes
- Fan-out is built-in - one event can trigger many functions

### Basic Function Setup

Inngest function with typed events in Next.js

**When to use**: Starting with Inngest in any Next.js project

// lib/inngest/client.ts
import { Inngest, EventSchemas } from 'inngest';

export const inngest = new Inngest({
  id: 'my-app',
  schemas: new EventSchemas().fromRecord<Events>(),
});

// Define your events with types
```
