## What it does

This skill collects design patterns for an agent that codes on its own: how tool calls are shaped, how permissions and approvals work, browser automation, and checkpoints where a human steps in. The patterns come from Cline and Codex. It asks you to read `references/detailed-guide.md` first, since the full procedure sits there and its safety requirements are meant to be followed.

What you get is not a finished agent. The samples are conceptual fragments, with imports, types and adapters left for you to write. `response.to_history_message` is a contract to implement for your own provider, not an SDK method. The `Server(config)` sketch does not perform a real MCP handshake with a transport and session, and generated server code stays inert until someone reviews it.

Worth checking before you build on it: approving a session by tool name hands out too much, because `npm`, `python`, `node` and `git` execute arbitrary code and a read tool can leak secrets. Bind approval to the action, the target and the limits instead, and keep filesystem, network and process boundaries outside the model's control. File edits need a conflict check against the original content and atomic replacement. Checkpoints need a real workspace snapshot, since `git status` will not restore uncommitted work. Browser text pulled through TreeWalker is neither an accessibility tree nor evidence that the element is visible.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill autonomous-agent-patterns -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill autonomous-agent-patterns -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill autonomous-agent-patterns -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills autonomous-agent-patterns
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill autonomous-agent-patterns -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --path skills/autonomous-agent-patterns
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill autonomous-agent-patterns -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/autonomous-agent-patterns/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- design a typed tool-calling schema for a coding agent
- bind approval to the action and target rather than the tool name
- add rollback checkpoints that survive uncommitted edits
- verify browser actions against the live UI instead of guessed targets
- keep filesystem and network limits outside the model's reach

## Example prompts
- Design the approval flow for my coding agent and tell me which tool calls must be gated
- Walk me through the browser automation pattern and what to verify after each action
- Review my file-edit and checkpoint design for conflict and rollback gaps

# 🕹️ Autonomous Agent Patterns

> Design patterns for building autonomous coding agents, inspired by [Cline](https://github.com/cline/cline) and [OpenAI Codex](https://github.com/openai/codex).

## Detailed Guide

Read [the detailed guide](references/detailed-guide.md) before executing this skill. It retains the complete procedure and reference material. Treat its safety, prerequisites, and validation requirements as mandatory. For focused work, load the relevant sections; for end-to-end work, read the guide completely.

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:

- Building autonomous AI agents
- Designing tool/function calling APIs
- Implementing permission and approval systems
- Creating browser automation for agents
- Designing human-in-the-loop workflows

---

## Limitations
- Use this skill only when the task clearly matches the scope described above.
- Do not treat the output as a substitute for environment-specific validation, testing, or expert review.
- Stop and ask for clarification if required inputs, permissions, safety boundaries, or success criteria are missing.

## Authorization and implementation limits

These classes are conceptual fragments with missing imports/types/adapters/helpers, not working Cline/Codex/MCP implementations. response.to_history_message is an adapter contract to implement for the actual provider, not a standard SDK method. MCP clients need an actual transport/session and lifecycle; the Server(config) sketch is not a valid client handshake. Generated server code stays inert until reviewed.
