## What it does

The skill activates via `/showcase` and shifts the coding agent into high-ambition mode. Instead of generic components, it leans into deep browser capabilities: View Transitions, CSS scroll-driven animations, or rendering with Canvas and WebGL.

Before modifying code, the agent must present two or three technical directions. Each option outlines visual behavior, performance costs, and browser compatibility trade-offs so you can confirm the path first. It also relies on browser automation tools to inspect the resulting motion during development.

Without browser automation available in the agent environment, complex transitions cannot be verified automatically, leaving fine-tuning to manual testing.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill showcase -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/showcase/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/showcase/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill showcase -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/showcase/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill showcase -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/showcase/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aladicf/better-web-ui showcase
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/showcase/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill showcase -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aladicf/better-web-ui --path skills/showcase
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/showcase/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill showcase -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- Build cinematic page transitions using the native View Transitions API
- Set up CSS scroll-driven animations without extra JavaScript packages
- Render massive datasets with Canvas 2D or WebGL shaders
- Animate dialogs morphing directly from trigger buttons

## Example prompts
- /showcase hero section with scroll-driven depth effects
- /showcase data grid supporting 100k rows with virtual scrolling
- /showcase dialog that morphs out of the trigger button

name: showcase
description: Create standout, technically ambitious interfaces that feel extraordinary through cinematic transitions, advanced motion, heavy rendering, or other high-ambition implementation work. Use when the user wants to wow, impress, go all-out, or push a feature beyond conventional UI polish—not when simple visual confidence or routine cleanup is enough.

Push an interface past conventional limits. This isn't just about visual effects — it's about using the full power of the browser to make any part of an interface feel extraordinary: a table that handles a million rows, a dialog that morphs from its trigger, a form that validates in real-time with streaming feedback, a page transition that feels cinematic.

## MANDATORY PREPARATION

Users start this workflow with `/showcase`. Once this skill is active, load $frontend-design — it contains design principles, anti-patterns, and the **Context Gathering Protocol**. Follow that protocol before proceeding — if no design context exists yet, you MUST load $setup first.

Consult the [motion reference](../frontend-design/reference/motion-design.md) for timing, easing, choreography, and reduced-motion expectations.
Consult the [elevation system](../frontend-design/reference/elevation-system.md) when ambitious effects depend on convincing depth, layering, or state transitions.
Consult the [ai slop detection](../frontend-design/reference/ai-slop-detection.md) so “extraordinary” stays specific to the product instead of becoming expensive trend cargo culting.

**EXTRA IMPORTANT FOR THIS SKILL**: Context determines what "extraordinary" means. A particle system on a creative portfolio is impressive. The same particle system on a settings page is embarrassing. But a settings page with instant optimistic saves and animated state transitions? That's extraordinary too. Understand the project's personality and goals before deciding what's appropriate.

### Propose Before Building

This skill has the highest potential to misfire. Do NOT jump straight into implementation. You MUST:

1. **Think through 2-3 different directions** — consider different techniques, levels of ambition, and aesthetic approaches. For each direction, briefly describe what the result would look and feel like.
2. **ask the user directly to clarify what you cannot infer.** to present these directions and get the user's pick before writing any code. Explain trade-offs (browser support, performance cost, complexity).
3. Only proceed with the direction the user confirms.

Skipping this step risks building something embarrassing that needs to be thrown away.
