# ship

ship coordinates verified issues through implementation, independent review, and pre-merge testing. It suits coding sessions where agents handle code while an orchestrator controls decisions and release gates.

## What it does

The ship skill structures a development session around issues that can be reproduced on `main`. It helps select a focused batch, prepare briefs, and delegate implementation to coding subagents. Before a PR lands, the workflow requires a test that fails against the unfixed behavior, a reviewer who sees the diff and issue rather than the author's reasoning, and a fresh agent exercising the change as a real user would. Tier 2–3 changes also get a tester.

A script at `scripts/ship.mjs` handles the workflow commands through the `ship` shell function. Supporting files define agent briefs, fresh-agent scenarios, and a log of merged PRs. The commands cover session snapshots, worktrees, CI waiting, and PR gates. Parallel implementation is capped at two agents, with work touching the same functions scheduled sequentially.

Each issue needs a reproducible symptom on `main`, backed by a command and its output; that command becomes the first failing test. Product decisions such as changing defaults, contracts, or exit codes stay with the user. If `node_modules` does not match `package-lock.json`, run `npm ci` before spawning agents, since `npm install` can rewrite libc fields in the lockfile.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --skill ship -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ship/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ship/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --skill ship -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ship/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --skill ship -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ship/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli ship
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ship/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --skill ship -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --path .claude/skills/ship
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ship/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli --skill ship -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/szymdzum/browser-debugger-cli/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/ship/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Turn a reproducible bug into a failing test before the fix
- Plan an issue-focused coding session with acceptance criteria
- Delegate implementation and independent review to separate agents
- Test a proposed change from a fresh agent's perspective before merging
- Track merged PRs and compare issue intake with completed work

## Example prompts
- Start a ship session for verified bugs, recheck the symptoms on `main`, and recommend a focused issue batch.
- Prepare the implementation and reviewer briefs, then run the required gates for this PR before merging.
- Run a fresh-agent test round using the scenarios in `scenarios.md`.

description: "bdg's shipping workflow: take verified issues from the queue to merged PRs with coding subagents (implementer, fresh reviewer, fresh-agent test before merge), with bdg's commands, gates, conventions and fresh-agent test scenarios. Use when the user asks to work through issues, run a session or wave, ship a feature end to end, run a fresh-agent test round or exploratory sweep, or says 'jedziemy w cyklu'."

# Ship (bdg)

You are the **orchestrator**: you choose the issues, write the briefs, judge the reports, route the findings, and merge. You don't write feature code. Everything mechanical goes through the script, so your attention stays on judgment:

```bash
ship() { node "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)/.claude/skills/ship/scripts/ship.mjs" "$@"; }   # ship help
```

Call it only through this function: a command kept in a variable (`S="node …"; $S brief …`) is not split into words in zsh, and in S14 that wrote two empty briefs.

Each PR gets three independent looks before it lands, none of which sees the author's reasoning: **tests written first** that fail before the fix (the red commit), a **fresh reviewer** with the diff and the issue only, and a **fresh-agent test** in which a new agent uses the change as bdg's real users (coding agents) would. Skip none of them for behaviour changes.

Files:
- [briefs.md](briefs.md): the four briefs and their shared blocks; render them with `ship brief`. Read before spawning any subagent.
- [scenarios.md](scenarios.md): fresh-agent test rounds, the report format, scenarios S01–S17, the exploratory sweep. Read before any fresh-agent test.
- [log.md](log.md): one row per merged PR (`ship log`); the retro's data.
- [scripts/ship.mjs](scripts/ship.mjs): the commands below; its tests run in `npm test`.

## Session start

- `ship snapshot` (gate 8 compares against it; it lives in `~/.cache/ship/`, so a reboot keeps it). It and `ship brief` warn when the load average is above 50: find what is running before starting agents or Chromes (S27: the Mac rebooted mid-session). It also warns when the main checkout's `node_modules` don't match `package-lock.json`, as after dependabot merges (S16 #803: an implementer wrote a dead type extension against stale types); run `npm ci` there, not `npm install`, which rewrites the lockfile's libc fields. `ship worktree` warns the same way.
