## What it does

This skill teaches coding assistants how to deploy and query models with the SGLang serving framework. It provides launch commands for tensor parallelism using `--tp` and model paths. SGLang relies on RadixAttention to retain processed tokens in memory. This automatically reuses the KV cache across repeated system prompts without manual cache configuration.

The skill includes `@sgl.function` templates for decoding constrained by JSON schemas, regular expressions, and Python EBNF grammars. Running the server requires `sglang`, `torch`, and `transformers`. You can also install FlashInfer wheels for faster CUDA kernels.

If your workload only involves basic text without prefix sharing, the documentation recommends sticking with vLLM. SGLang specifically targets multi-turn agent pipelines and structured extraction. It currently powers over 300,000 GPUs across xAI, AMD, NVIDIA, and LinkedIn.

## Requirements
- Works with: LinkedIn

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill sglang -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sglang/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sglang/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill sglang -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sglang/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill sglang -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sglang/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs sglang
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sglang/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill sglang -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --path 12-inference-serving/sglang
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sglang/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Orchestra-Research/AI-Research-SKILLs --skill sglang -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- Deploy SGLang servers with multi-GPU tensor parallelism
- Enforce strict JSON schemas or regex patterns during LLM generation
- Cache repeated system prompts automatically using RadixAttention
- Build agent workflows with structured function calling

## Example prompts
- Show me how to launch an SGLang server for Meta-Llama-3-70B-Instruct with 4 GPUs
- Write an `@sgl.function` that extracts structured JSON conforming to a schema
- How do I configure SGLang tool calling so repeated system prompts reuse KV cache?

# SGLang

High-performance serving framework for LLMs and VLMs with RadixAttention for automatic prefix caching.

## When to use SGLang

**Use SGLang when:**
- Need structured outputs (JSON, regex, grammar)
- Building agents with repeated prefixes (system prompts, tools)
- Agentic workflows with function calling
- Multi-turn conversations with shared context
- Need faster JSON decoding (3× vs standard)

**Use vLLM instead when:**
- Simple text generation without structure
- Don't need prefix caching
- Want mature, widely-tested production system

**Use TensorRT-LLM instead when:**
- Maximum single-request latency (no batching needed)
- NVIDIA-only deployment
- Need FP8/INT4 quantization on H100

## Quick start

### Installation

```bash
# pip install (recommended)
pip install "sglang[all]"
# With FlashInfer (faster, CUDA 11.8/12.1)
pip install sglang[all] flashinfer -i https://flashinfer.ai/whl/cu121/torch2.4/
# From source
git clone https://github.com/sgl-project/sglang.git
cd sglang
pip install -e "python[all]"
```

### Launch server

```bash
# Basic server (Llama 3-8B)
python -m sglang.launch_server \
    --model-path meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct \
    --port 30000
# With RadixAttention (automatic prefix caching)
python -m sglang.launch_server \
    --model-path meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct \
    --port 30000 \
    --enable-radix-cache  # Default: enabled
# Multi-GPU (tensor parallelism)
python -m sglang.launch_server \
    --model-path meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-70B-Instruct \
    --tp 4 \
    --port 30000
```

### Basic inference

```python
import sglang as sgl
# Set backend
sgl.set_default_backend(sgl.OpenAI("http://localhost:30000/v1"))
# Simple generation
@sgl.function
def simple_gen(s, question):
    s += "Q: " + question + "\n"
    s += "A:" + sgl.gen("answer", max_tokens=100)
# Run
state = simple_gen.run(question="What is the capital of France?")
print(state["answer"])
# Output: "The capital of France is Paris."
```

### Structured JSON output

```python
import sglang as sgl
@sgl.function
def extract_person(s, text):
    s += f"Extract person information from: {text}\n"
````
