# Session Management

Keeps a work log and a tech debt tracker across agent sessions, so a restart still shows what got done and what is pending.

## What it does

The skill splits session history across three files. The report registry at `.claude/reports/_registry.md` indexes every unit of work: after a bug fix, feature or investigation you add an entry with a date, a status and a link to the full report. Tech debt lives in `.claude/reports/_tech-debt.md`, ranked P0 to P3, each item carrying a category, a file location and a suggested fix.

There is a third layer: `MEMORY.md`, Claude's auto-memory file, loaded into every system prompt. The skill tells you to write project lessons there — after a user correction, after a non-obvious pitfall, after a tricky bug. Keep it under 200 lines, because it rides along with every request.

At session start the skill walks the registry, the debt tracker, `git log --oneline -10` and `git status`, then summarises what is active and what is stuck. P0 items get flagged. At session end it updates the registry, logs new debt and archives resolved entries: reports after 7 days, debt after 90, with no more than 50 active entries. Run this outside Claude and you do those steps by hand — the workflow leans on auto-loaded `MEMORY.md` and the `.claude/reports/` layout.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hedera-dev/hedera-skills --skill session-management -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/session-management/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/session-management/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hedera-dev/hedera-skills --skill session-management -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/session-management/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hedera-dev/hedera-skills --skill session-management -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/session-management/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install hedera-dev/hedera-skills session-management
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/session-management/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hedera-dev/hedera-skills --skill session-management -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/hedera-dev/hedera-skills --path plugins/dev-intelligence/skills/session-management
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/session-management/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hedera-dev/hedera-skills --skill session-management -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/hedera-dev/hedera-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/dev-intelligence/skills/session-management/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- rebuild context after the agent restarts
- log discovered tech debt with a priority and a file location
- close resolved items and move them to the archive
- save a project lesson right after a user correction
- check what is still open before starting new work

## Example prompts
- resume work from the last session, what was active?
- log this as tech debt: workaround in the config parser, priority P1
- show me the session history and what's pending

# Session Management

## Purpose

Maintain continuity across AI agent sessions by providing structured work tracking, tech debt management, and report archival. This skill ensures no context is lost between sessions — the agent always knows what was done, what's pending, and what needs attention.

## The Report Registry

The report registry (`.claude/reports/_registry.md`) is the central index of all work performed across sessions.

### When to Add Entries
- After completing a meaningful unit of work (bug fix, feature, refactor, investigation)
- After an investigation that produced findings worth preserving
- When identifying an issue that needs future attention

### How to Use
1. Read the registry at session start to understand recent work
2. Add entries as work is completed during the session
3. Update entry status when revisiting previous work (`Active` → `Resolved`)
4. Follow the 15-category structure for organization

### Entry Format
```markdown
### [Category] Short descriptive title
- **Date:** YYYY-MM-DD
- **Status:** Active | Resolved | Archived
- **File:** `.claude/reports/<category>/<filename>.md`
- **Summary:** One-line description of findings or changes
```

See `references/registry-template.md` for the full template with all 15 categories.

## The Tech Debt Tracker

The tech debt tracker (`.claude/reports/_tech-debt.md`) captures technical debt discovered during development.

### When to Add Debt
- When you notice code that should be improved but isn't the current focus
- When a workaround is used instead of a proper solution
- When tests are skipped or coverage gaps are identified
- When dependency updates are deferred
- When architectural concerns are discovered

### Priority Levels
| Priority | Meaning | Action |
|----------|---------|--------|
| P0 | Blocks development or production | Fix this session |
| P1 | Degrades DX or performance | Fix this week |
| P2 | Code quality concern | Fix this month |
