## What it does

The skill takes a `{CHANNEL_ID}` for a channel that already exists in the org and gets it into a state the server will accept. Activate without a valid `SessionHandlerId` and you get `nullQueueId` or `LiveMessageSetupException` from the server side. That is the gap this skill fills.

It then walks you through the routing type: Omni-Channel Queue, Omni-Flow, Agentforce Service Agent, Digital Worker, or a direct User. For a queue you can reuse an existing one or create a new Queue plus QueueRoutingConfig through the Metadata API. For the other types the skill locates an eligible target and PATCHes it. It does not create Flows, bots, digital workers, or users — if nothing eligible exists, you get `no-eligible-target` with a pointer to Setup and a re-run.

Some types require a `FallbackQueue`, the Omni-Channel queue that catches sessions the primary target cannot take. Omni-Flow, ASA, and Digital Worker need one; Queue and User must leave it null. No `MessagingSession`-capable queue in the org means the skill returns `no-fallback-queue` and sends you down the Queue path first. One more thing worth knowing: the skill will not replace routing that is already set. With an existing `SessionHandlerId` it only revalidates the target and exits as a no-op. To swap routing, clear `SessionHandlerId` in the UI yourself and run it again. For end-to-end channel setup there is `service-de-headless-channel-configure`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Salesforce

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill service-de-channel-routing-configure -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill service-de-channel-routing-configure -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill service-de-channel-routing-configure -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install forcedotcom/sf-skills service-de-channel-routing-configure
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill service-de-channel-routing-configure -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills --path skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add forcedotcom/sf-skills --skill service-de-channel-routing-configure -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/forcedotcom/sf-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/service-de-channel-routing-configure/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure routing on a just-inserted MessagingChannel
- pick between queue, Flow, ASA, Digital Worker and direct user routing
- create a Queue and QueueRoutingConfig via the Metadata API
- locate an eligible routing target in the org and PATCH it
- check that a FallbackQueue is set where the routing type requires one

## Example prompts
- Configure routing for channel 0MjXXXXXXXXXXXXXX — route sessions to an Omni-Channel Queue
- Check whether channel 0MjXXXXXXXXXXXXXX is ready for activation and tell me what is missing
- Channel 0MjXXXXXXXXXXXXXX has no SessionHandlerId — work out which routing type fits

# Configuring Channel Routing

## What this skill does

Ensures a `MessagingChannel` has valid routing configured before activation. The channel's `SessionHandler` field is a **polymorphic foreign key** (verified against `MessagingChannel.entity.xml`, `domain="Queue, FlowDefinition, User, BotDefinition, AgenticCtxtDecorDefinition"`) — it names *who* the channel routes incoming sessions to. Some targets additionally require a `FallbackQueue` (an Omni-Channel Queue that catches sessions the primary target can't take).
