A skill that plans SEO from scratch, audits an existing site and tells you what to do next. Useful when you don't know where to start.

## What it does

The skill walks through phases in order: technical foundation first (crawlability, indexing, sitemap), then on-page work (metadata, structure, schema), then content and off-page links. For each step it names the skill to reach for — `keyword-research`, `content-optimization`, `link-building` and others. The order matters. Optimizing pages on a site that isn't indexed wastes the effort.

Inside are P0–P3 priority tables, a Product-Led SEO section and separate audit logic. For a new site it starts with domain selection and page structure; for an existing one it starts with a technical audit. Low traffic usually points at content or an intent mismatch, so that's where it looks. It also covers when to skip SEO entirely: during cold start the first users come from email and ads, because search takes months to pay off.

This is Google-first. The skill's own material puts Google at roughly 91% of global search, and for other markets it points you to `localization-strategy`. Technical crawl work belongs to `seo-audit`, query selection to `keyword-research`, AI search visibility to `generative-engine-optimization`. Installing this one doesn't replace those — it sits above them and decides what runs when.

## When to use it
- lay out an SEO work plan for the next quarter
- figure out why a site isn't getting indexed
- sort tasks into P0–P3 priorities
- decide whether SEO is worth doing at the current stage
- line up SEO and paid search on the same keywords

## Example prompts
- Draft an SEO strategy for a new site — where do we start and what comes next
- Audit our existing site and rank the fixes P0 through P3
- Traffic is flat. Is it a content problem or a technical blocker?

## Strategic Context: Why SEO

| Value | Rationale |
|-------|------------|
| **Traffic control** | ~68% of initial web traffic from search; search aggregates most user intent |
| **Growth channel** | ~87% of consumers prefer Google when discovering new categories; 43% of conversions from organic (vs ~11% social) |
| **Cost efficiency** | SEO user LTV 3–5× paid ads; rank #1 CTR ~27.6% vs #10 ~2.4% |
| **Long-term asset** | Quality SEO assets yield 3–5 years of traffic; Core Web Vitals correlate with conversion (e.g., +8% per 0.1s faster) |

**SEO = Google optimization**: Google holds ~91% global search share; B2B buyers use search as research starting point. Optimize for Google first; see **localization-strategy** for non-Google markets.

## When to Invest in SEO

| Stage | Recommendation |
|-------|----------------|
| **Cold start** | Use email, ads, or influencers for first users; SEO takes time (sandbox, 6+ months) |
| **Post-PMF** | SEO scales; combine with paid for faster feedback; see **pmf-strategy**, **paid-ads-strategy** |
| **Team** | Many SMBs use contractors; SEO spans content, links, tech, UX—full-time team when scaling |

**Principle**: Don't do SEO for SEO's sake; don't fight Google rules; prioritize real user experience.
