## What it does

The skill leads an agent through project inspection before adding `@sentry/tanstackstart-react`. It examines `package.json` for installed packages, checks for `src/router.tsx`, `src/server.ts`, and `instrument.server.mjs`, and looks for `SENTRY_AUTH_TOKEN` in environment files. File detection comes first.

Once the layout is clear, the agent proposes the setup code. It configures client-side `Sentry.init` inside the router factory, sets up server telemetry in `instrument.server.mjs`, registers `sentryTanstackStart` in `vite.config.ts`, and wraps the server fetch handler with `wrapFetchWithSentry`.

Because this SDK is in alpha for TanStack Start 1.0 RC, cross-checking official documentation before deployment is necessary.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-tanstack-start-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-tanstack-start-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-tanstack-start-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-for-ai sentry-tanstack-start-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-tanstack-start-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai --path skills-legacy/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-tanstack-start-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai/tree/HEAD/skills-legacy/sentry-tanstack-start-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure client and server error monitoring in TanStack Start
- instrument TanStack Router navigation and fetch tracing
- add the sentryTanstackStart plugin to vite.config.ts
- enable Session Replay and user feedback widgets

## Example prompts
- Add Sentry to my TanStack Start React app
- Install @sentry/tanstackstart-react and configure error monitoring
- Set up Sentry tracing and Session Replay in TanStack Start

# Sentry TanStack Start React SDK

Opinionated wizard that scans your TanStack Start React project and guides you through complete Sentry setup for browser and server runtimes.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "add Sentry to TanStack Start" or "set up Sentry" in a TanStack Start React app
- User wants to install or configure `@sentry/tanstackstart-react`
- User wants error monitoring, tracing, session replay, logs, or user feedback for TanStack Start React
- User asks about `sentryTanstackStart`, `wrapFetchWithSentry`, `instrument.server.mjs`, or TanStack Start middleware instrumentation

> **Note:** This SDK is currently alpha and documented as compatible with TanStack Start `1.0 RC`.
> Always verify against [docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/tanstackstart-react/](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/guides/tanstackstart-react/) before implementing.

## Phase 1: Detect

Run these commands to understand the project before making any recommendations:

```bash
# Detect TanStack Start / Router and existing Sentry
cat package.json | grep -E '"@tanstack/react-start"|"@tanstack/react-router"|"@sentry/tanstackstart-react"'
# Check if Sentry is already present
cat package.json | grep '"@sentry/'
# Detect key files used by the TanStack Start setup
ls src/router.tsx src/start.ts src/server.ts instrument.server.mjs vite.config.ts vite.config.js 2>/dev/null
# Check whether source map upload credentials are configured
cat .env .env.local .env.sentry-build-plugin 2>/dev/null | grep "SENTRY_AUTH_TOKEN"
# Detect deployment hints in scripts
cat package.json | grep -E '"dev"|"build"|"start"|NODE_OPTIONS|--import'
# Detect logging libraries
cat package.json | grep -E '"pino"|"winston"|"loglevel"'
# Detect companion backend directories
ls ../backend ../server ../api 2>/dev/null
cat ../go.mod ../requirements.txt ../Gemfile ../pom.xml 2>/dev/null | head -3
```

**What to determine:**

| Question | Impact |
|----------|--------|
| `@tanstack/react-start` present? | Confirms this skill is the right setup path |
| `@sentry/tanstackstart-react` already installed? | Skip install and go to feature tuning |
| `src/router.tsx` exists? | Client-side `Sentry.init` placement |
