# sentry-nestjs-sdk

A skill that walks the agent through wiring Sentry into a NestJS project: it scans dependencies, proposes a feature set, then guides the install.

## What it does

The skill is a setup wizard for `@sentry/nestjs`. First the agent inspects `package.json`: the `@nestjs/core` version, any Sentry already present, the Express or Fastify adapter, GraphQL, microservices, WebSockets, Bull and BullMQ queues, `@nestjs/schedule`, Prisma, and AI libraries. From those findings it proposes a concrete plan. Error monitoring and tracing form the baseline; profiling, logs, metrics, crons and AI monitoring get added when the codebase calls for them.

Work happens in three stages: Detect, Recommend, Guide. Detect includes checks for a hand-rolled DI wrapper around Sentry, a config class instead of environment variables, and an existing `SentryModule.forRoot()` registration. Find any of those and the skill tells the agent to call Sentry through the injected proxy rather than importing the SDK inside controllers and services. Guide installs `@sentry/nestjs` and then sets up initialization across three files.

Never put `@sentry/node` next to `@sentry/nestjs`. The latter already re-exports it, so both together register twice. Express is fully covered. Fastify has known edge cases. Prisma needs a manual `prismaIntegration()`. Version details in the skill are `@sentry/nestjs` 10.x with NestJS 8–11, and it advises checking the Sentry docs for the current state before implementing.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-nestjs-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-nestjs-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-nestjs-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-for-ai sentry-nestjs-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-nestjs-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai --path skills-legacy/sentry-nestjs-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-nestjs-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai/tree/HEAD/skills-legacy/sentry-nestjs-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add Sentry to a NestJS app without reading the docs end to end
- spot an existing DI wrapper around Sentry and route calls through it
- decide which monitoring features to switch on: errors, tracing, profiling, logs, crons
- split SDK initialization across three files without breaking app startup
- account for Fastify, Prisma and microservice quirks before they bite in production

## Example prompts
- Add Sentry to this NestJS project and suggest which monitoring features to enable.
- Check whether we already wrap Sentry in a DI token, then add tracing through it.
- Set up `@sentry/nestjs` with profiling and crons for our BullMQ jobs.

# Sentry NestJS SDK

Opinionated wizard that scans your NestJS project and guides you through complete Sentry setup.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "add Sentry to NestJS" or "setup Sentry" in a NestJS app
- User wants error monitoring, tracing, profiling, logging, metrics, or crons in NestJS
- User mentions `@sentry/nestjs` or Sentry + NestJS
- User wants to monitor NestJS controllers, services, guards, microservices, or background jobs

> **Note:** SDK versions and APIs below reflect `@sentry/nestjs` 10.x (NestJS 8–11 supported).
> Always verify against [docs.sentry.io/platforms/node/guides/nestjs/](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/node/guides/nestjs/) before implementing.

## Phase 1: Detect

Run these commands to understand the project before making recommendations:

```bash
# Confirm NestJS project
grep -E '"@nestjs/core"' package.json 2>/dev/null
# Check NestJS version
node -e "console.log(require('./node_modules/@nestjs/core/package.json').version)" 2>/dev/null
# Check existing Sentry
grep -i sentry package.json 2>/dev/null
ls src/instrument.ts 2>/dev/null
grep -r "Sentry.init\|@sentry" src/main.ts src/instrument.ts 2>/dev/null
# Check for existing Sentry DI wrapper (common in enterprise NestJS)
grep -rE "SENTRY.*TOKEN|SentryProxy|SentryService" src/ libs/ 2>/dev/null
# Check for config-class-based init (vs env-var-based)
grep -rE "class SentryConfig|SentryConfig" src/ libs/ 2>/dev/null
# Check if SentryModule.forRoot() is already registered in a shared module
