## What it does

The skill scans the project before it touches anything. It greps `package.json` for React, Next.js, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Remix, Nuxt, Astro and Ember, and if one turns up it stops and hands over to the matching framework skill. In a React app this skill will not configure a thing. That is the point: `@sentry/browser` loses router transactions and error boundaries there.

With no framework in sight it chooses an install path. A `package.json` plus a bundler means npm. WordPress, Shopify or plain HTML without npm gets the Loader Script. Script tags only gets the CDN bundle. Then it proposes features: error monitoring and tracing every time, session replay for pages that face users, user feedback, logging and profiling as extras.

Two constraints are worth knowing before you start. Logging only works through npm or the CDN logs bundle, never the Loader Script. Profiling is beta, Chromium-only, and needs a `Document-Policy: js-profiling` response header. The skill is written against `@sentry/browser` ≥10.0.0.

## Requirements
- Works with: Sentry

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-browser-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-browser-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-browser-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getsentry/sentry-for-ai sentry-browser-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-browser-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai --path skills-legacy/sentry-browser-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getsentry/sentry-for-ai --skill sentry-browser-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-for-ai/tree/HEAD/skills-legacy/sentry-browser-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add error monitoring to a static HTML site with no build step
- choose between npm, the Loader Script and the CDN bundle
- record session replay on checkout pages
- catch unhandled promise rejections in vanilla JS
- send structured logs that link back to traces

## Example prompts
- Add Sentry to our WordPress site, error monitoring only
- Install `@sentry/browser` in this jQuery project and turn on session replay
- Set up tracing and logging for a plain JS site with no framework

# Sentry Browser SDK

Opinionated wizard that scans your project and guides you through complete Sentry setup for browser JavaScript — vanilla JS, jQuery, static sites, WordPress, and any JS project without a framework-specific SDK.

## Invoke This Skill When

- User asks to "add Sentry to a website" or set up Sentry for plain JavaScript
- User wants to install `@sentry/browser` or configure the Loader Script
- User has a WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, or static HTML site
- User wants error monitoring, tracing, session replay, or logging without a framework
- No framework-specific SDK applies

> **Note:** SDK versions and APIs below reflect `@sentry/browser` ≥10.0.0.
> Always verify against [docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/](https://docs.sentry.io/platforms/javascript/) before implementing.

## Phase 1: Detect

**CRITICAL — Check for frameworks first.** Framework-specific SDKs provide significantly better coverage and must be recommended before proceeding with `@sentry/browser`.

### Step 1A: Framework Detection (Redirect If Found)

```bash
# Check for React
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep -E '"react"'
# Check for Next.js
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"next"'
# Check for Vue
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"vue"'
# Check for Angular
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"@angular/core"'
# Check for Svelte / SvelteKit
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep -E '"svelte"|"@sveltejs/kit"'
# Check for Remix
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep -E '"@remix-run/react"|"@remix-run/node"'
# Check for Nuxt
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"nuxt"'
# Check for Astro
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"astro"'
# Check for Ember
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep '"ember-source"'
# Check for Node.js server frameworks (wrong SDK entirely)
cat package.json 2>/dev/null | grep -E '"express"|"fastify"|"@nestjs/core"|"koa"'
```

**If a framework is detected, stop and redirect:**
