## What it does

The skill walks through every place where security meets the interface: sign-in, passwords, MFA, trust signals, account recovery, breach notices, consent and permissions. Each area comes with concrete rules — keep the email field filled after a failed attempt, show a password strength meter while the user types, allow passphrases instead of forcing arbitrary character mixing.

It points to four references: authentication and account recovery, permissions and roles UX, interface honesty, and error recovery. Before anything else it tells you to load `$frontend-design` and follow its Context Gathering Protocol; if no design context exists yet, `$setup` loads first. You also gather the product's threat model, the security features already in place, and the spots where users get confused or anxious.

Accessibility gets its own section: large MFA code inputs, a visible and screen-reader-friendly TOTP timer, `aria-live` for security alerts, keyboard-navigable recovery. The anti-patterns list is blunt — lock icons on pages that protect nothing, complexity rules that still allow short passwords.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill security-ux -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/security-ux/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill security-ux -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill security-ux -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aladicf/better-web-ui security-ux
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill security-ux -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aladicf/better-web-ui --path skills/security-ux
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aladicf/better-web-ui --skill security-ux -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/aladicf/better-web-ui/tree/HEAD/skills/security-ux/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- design a sign-in and MFA flow users won't resent
- show password requirements before the first keystroke
- make account recovery reachable without making it weak
- write a breach notice people actually read
- split consent for marketing from consent for functionality

## Example prompts
- /security-ux set up MFA for the account settings page
- /security-ux recovery screen using backup codes
- /security-ux alert for a sign-in from an unfamiliar device

Build security interfaces that earn user trust through clarity, not intimidation. The goal is to make users feel safe and in control, not punished for security requirements.

Consult the [authentication and account recovery](../frontend-design/reference/authentication-and-account-recovery.md) reference for sign-in, MFA, session expiry, password UX, and recovery-stack guidance.
Consult the [permissions and roles UX](../frontend-design/reference/permissions-and-roles-ux.md) reference for role editors, request-access flows, access-denied recovery, and risky permission changes.
Consult the [interface honesty](../frontend-design/reference/interface-honesty.md) reference for assertive UX language, honest progress and consent copy, and trust-preserving product behavior.
Consult the [error recovery](../frontend-design/reference/error-recovery.md) reference for what happens after security-related failures.

## MANDATORY PREPARATION

Users start this workflow with `/security-ux`. Once this skill is active, load $frontend-design — it contains design principles, anti-patterns, and the **Context Gathering Protocol**. Follow that protocol before proceeding — if no design context exists yet, you MUST load $setup first. Additionally gather: what threat model the product faces, what security features are already implemented, and where users currently feel confused or anxious about security.

## Assess Security UX Needs

Identify where security and user experience intersect:

1. **Authentication flow**: How do users sign in? Is MFA required or optional? How painful is the current flow?
2. **Password experience**: Are requirements reasonable? Is there guidance on creating strong passwords?
3. **Trust signals**: Does the interface communicate security clearly (HTTPS indicators, verified badges, encryption notes)?
4. **Recovery paths**: What happens when users lose access? Is recovery secure but not impossible?
5. **Breach and anomaly response**: How does the product notify users of suspicious activity or data breaches?
6. **Permission and consent**: Are users making informed decisions about what they share?

## Security UX Dimensions

### Authentication

**Sign-in flow**:
- Keep the sign-in form minimal: email and password, or social auth options
- Show/hide password toggle so users can verify their input
- Do not clear the email field on failed attempts
```
