## What it does

The skill splits into categories: authentication, defense-in-depth, input validation, OWASP Top 10, LLM safety, PII masking, dependency scanning and advanced guardrails. Rule files live in `rules/` and load on demand. Code samples cover Argon2id password hashing, JWT access tokens with a 15-minute expiry, Zod v4 schemas, and masking emails and SSNs before they reach Langfuse.

It activates on paths like `src/**/auth/**`, `src/**/middleware/**` and `**/*security*`, plus `.env*` files. Its allowed tools are `Read`, `Glob`, `Grep`, `WebFetch` and `WebSearch`, so it reads and searches but never edits. You cannot call it yourself: `user-invocable: false`.

Some sandbox settings only work on recent Claude versions and only from user or managed settings. Masking credential files instead of denying them works on Linux and WSL; on macOS it falls back to `deny`, so a Mac gains nothing there. Worth checking your version before you lean on those blocks.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yonatangross/orchestkit --skill security-patterns -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/security-patterns/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yonatangross/orchestkit --skill security-patterns -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yonatangross/orchestkit --skill security-patterns -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yonatangross/orchestkit security-patterns
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yonatangross/orchestkit --skill security-patterns -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yonatangross/orchestkit --path src/skills/security-patterns
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yonatangross/orchestkit --skill security-patterns -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yonatangross/orchestkit/tree/HEAD/src/skills/security-patterns/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a JWT auth flow with short-lived access tokens
- close injection and broken authentication gaps from OWASP Top 10
- validate a request body with a Zod or Pydantic schema
- strip emails and ID numbers before logging
- layer defenses so no single failure opens everything

## Example prompts
- check my auth module against security patterns
- how do I defend against prompt injection in my LLM app
- mask PII before sending it to Langfuse

# Security Patterns

Comprehensive security patterns for building hardened applications. Each category has individual rule files in `rules/` loaded on-demand.

## Quick Reference

| Category | Rules | Impact | When to Use |
|----------|-------|--------|-------------|
| [Authentication](#authentication) | upstream | CRITICAL | JWT tokens, OAuth 2.1/PKCE, RBAC/permissions |
| [Defense-in-Depth](#defense-in-depth) | 1 | CRITICAL | Multi-layer security, zero-trust architecture |
| [Input Validation](#input-validation) | 2 | HIGH | Schema validation (Zod/Pydantic), output encoding, file uploads |
| [OWASP Top 10](#owasp-top-10) | 1 | CRITICAL | Injection prevention, broken authentication fixes |
| [LLM Safety](#llm-safety) | refs | HIGH | Prompt injection defense, output guardrails, content filtering |
| [PII Masking](#pii-masking) | refs | HIGH | PII detection/redaction with Presidio, Langfuse, LLM Guard |
| [Scanning](#scanning) | upstream | HIGH | Dependency audit, SAST (Semgrep/Bandit), secret detection |
| [Advanced Guardrails](#advanced-guardrails) | 2 | CRITICAL | NeMo/Guardrails AI validators, red-teaming, OWASP LLM |

**Total: 6 rule files across 4 categories.** Topics marked "upstream" or "refs" keep only
the ork delta here: floors and key decisions in this file, scars and house decisions in
`references/ork-delta.md`, and first-party sources in
[Upstream coverage](#upstream-coverage-do-not-restate).

## Quick Start

```python
# Argon2id password hashing
from argon2 import PasswordHasher
ph = PasswordHasher()
password_hash = ph.hash(password)
ph.verify(password_hash, password)
```

```python
# JWT access token (15-min expiry)
import jwt
from datetime import datetime, timedelta, timezone
payload = {
    'sub': user_id, 'type': 'access',
    'exp': datetime.now(timezone.utc) + timedelta(minutes=15),
}
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 734e5ec50e394fa7 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
