## What it does

The skill lays out how to wire security monitoring into a project: pull logs from firewalls, endpoints, cloud and applications, run them through a SIEM, and attach detection rules. Inside are YAML rule definitions for authentication, data exfiltration and malware, plus correlation rules that catch lateral movement and privilege escalation attempts.

Alerts are split by severity. Critical ones get a short response window and auto-escalation; low ones become tickets only. There is an alert template with source, user and recommended-action fields. Then comes the incident workflow: detection, triage, containment, investigation, eradication, recovery.

The skill depends on the `security-mcp` MCP server with the `siem_query`, `alert_create`, `incident_manage` and `compliance_check` tools. Without it, SIEM queries and alert creation will not run, so bring the server up first. Inputs are security logs, alert rules, incident data and compliance requirements.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill security-monitoring -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/security-monitoring/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/security-monitoring/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill security-monitoring -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/security-monitoring/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill security-monitoring -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/security-monitoring/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install claude-office-skills/skills security-monitoring
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/security-monitoring/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill security-monitoring -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills --path security-monitoring
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/security-monitoring/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill security-monitoring -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/security-monitoring/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a detection rule for brute-force logins
- chain events into a lateral movement pattern
- sort alerts by severity and set escalation
- walk an incident from triage to recovery
- check a configuration against compliance requirements

## Example prompts
- write a brute-force detection rule: more than 5 failed logins in 5 minutes from one IP
- collect critical alerts and send them to #security-critical
- run this incident through the workflow and draft the report
