A Playwright skill for browser automation and end-to-end testing. It finds your running dev server and writes the test script for the task.

## What it does

The skill hands your agent working knowledge of Playwright: it writes scripts in JavaScript or TypeScript, runs them in a real browser and streams the output. Projects in TypeScript, JavaScript and Python are covered.

Before anything runs, the skill looks for local dev servers. One found — it uses it; several — it asks which one to test; none — it asks for a URL or offers to start the server. Test files go to `/tmp/playwright-test-*.js` and run through `node run.js`. The browser stays visible by default, `headless: false`, so you watch the page as it moves.

Setup is a one-time step: `bun run setup` or `npm run setup:npm` inside the skill directory installs Playwright and Chromium. For a project with E2E tests you add `@playwright/test` separately. The skill path changes with the install method, so swap `$SKILL_DIR` for the real directory in every command — otherwise `node run.js` will not find the script.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill playwright -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/playwright/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill playwright -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill playwright -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install secondsky/claude-skills playwright
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/playwright/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill playwright -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills --path plugins/playwright/skills/playwright
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill playwright -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/playwright/skills/playwright/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check a layout at desktop and mobile widths
- write an E2E test for the login flow
- capture full-page screenshots
- find broken links across a site
- fill a form and verify the response

## Example prompts
- test the /pricing page at 1920x1080 and 375x667, save screenshots
- write a login test and assert the dashboard opens afterwards
- walk every external link on the homepage and list the ones that fail

# Playwright - Browser Automation & E2E Testing

Expert knowledge for browser automation and end-to-end testing with Playwright - a modern cross-browser testing framework.

**IMPORTANT - Path Resolution:**
This skill can be installed in different locations. Before executing commands, determine the skill directory based on where you loaded this SKILL.md file, and use that path in all commands. Replace `$SKILL_DIR` with the actual discovered path.

Common installation paths:
- Plugin system: `~/.claude/plugins/*/playwright/skills/playwright`
- Manual global: `~/.claude/skills/playwright`
- Project-specific: `<project>/.claude/skills/playwright`

## CRITICAL WORKFLOW - Follow These Steps

When automating browser tasks:

1. **Auto-detect dev servers** - For localhost testing, ALWAYS run server detection FIRST:
   ```bash
   cd $SKILL_DIR && node -e "require('./lib/helpers').detectDevServers().then(servers => console.log(JSON.stringify(servers)))"
   ```
   - If **1 server found**: Use it automatically, inform user
   - If **multiple servers found**: Ask user which one to test
   - If **no servers found**: Ask for URL or offer to help start dev server

2. **Write scripts to /tmp** - NEVER write test files to skill directory; always use `/tmp/playwright-test-*.js`

3. **Use visible browser by default** - Always use `headless: false` unless user specifically requests headless mode

4. **Parameterize URLs** - Always make URLs configurable via constant at top of script

5. **Execute via run.js** - Always run: `cd $SKILL_DIR && node run.js /tmp/playwright-test-*.js`

## Quick Start

### First-Time Setup

```bash
# Navigate to skill directory
cd $SKILL_DIR
# Install using bun (preferred)
bun run setup
# Or using npm
npm run setup:npm
```

This installs Playwright and Chromium browser. Only needed once.

### Installation (For E2E Testing Projects)

```bash
# Using Bun (preferred)
bun add -d @playwright/test
bunx playwright install
# Using npm
npm init playwright@latest
```

### Configuration

```typescript
// playwright.config.ts
import { defineConfig, devices } from '@playwright/test'
export default defineConfig({
  testDir: './tests',
  fullyParallel: true,
  reporter: 'html',
  use: {
    baseURL: 'http://localhost:3000',
    trace: 'on-first-retry',
    screenshot: 'only-on-failure',
  },
