## What it does

This skill covers Seaborn plots for exploring datasets: distributions, category comparisons, regression, correlation matrices, and faceted figures. It explains how to map variable values to visual properties such as color, point size, and style, and how plots can show estimates with confidence intervals.

The material presents two APIs: plotting functions for individual axes or full figures, and the declarative `seaborn.objects` interface for layered charts. Its examples use Python, `pandas`, and `matplotlib`, and include residual plots for inspecting model fit. Projects that do not use Python will not benefit from these plotting instructions.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --skill scientific/seaborn
```

2. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add davila7/claude-code-templates --skill seaborn -a claude-code
```

3. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/seaborn/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/seaborn/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/seaborn/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/seaborn/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install davila7/claude-code-templates seaborn
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/seaborn/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates --path cli-tool/components/skills/scientific/seaborn
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/seaborn/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/skills/scientific/seaborn

## When to use it
- plot relationships between variables with a scatterplot
- compare value distributions across categories
- create a heatmap or correlation matrix
- split a figure into panels by category
- inspect a linear fit with a residual plot

## Example prompts
- Plot `total_bill` against `tip` and encode `day` with color.
- Compare `total_bill` across days with a violin plot.
- Show pairwise relationships between the numeric columns in this dataset.
