## What it does

The skill sets an order for working with Scenario generations when the first roll is not good enough. The brief becomes a rubric of pass/fail lines a viewer can check, then a small batch runs, then a critic returns a verdict per asset against those lines. Fixes come last.

Fix routing starts with the cheapest option. A local defect gets a masked inpaint. A uniform finish problem — grade, tint, crop — goes to a deterministic tool pass instead of a re-roll. Wrong content or composition means editing the delta clause and re-running from the approved baseline. Identity or style drift calls for tightening the enumeration and re-roling references. When every line fails, swap the model and keep the prompt.

One variable changes per round. Otherwise you cannot tell what helped, and the next failure restarts from zero. The loop stops on a clean round; three rounds without one, or a single line failing twice under different fixes, means write a report rather than respin. The skill leans on siblings: `scenario`, `scenario-asset-analysis`, `scenario-consistency`, `scenario-image-editing`. If one is missing, ask the user to install it (`npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`); unattended, work from tool schemas and flag the gap.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-refine-loop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/scenario-refine-loop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-refine-loop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-refine-loop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install scenario-labs/skills scenario-refine-loop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-refine-loop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills --path skills/scenario-refine-loop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-refine-loop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/scenario-refine-loop/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a brief into checkable rubric lines before generating
- critique a batch and record a verdict per asset
- pick the cheapest fix for a specific failure
- hold style drift down across repeated runs
- decide when to stop the loop and report

## Example prompts
- build a rubric from the brief, generate four icons, then critique them with asset_analyze
- icon 2 is off palette — edit the prompt clause and re-run from the baseline
- one rubric line failed twice, stop respinning and write up the report

# Scenario Refine Loop

## Overview

Agents fail generation QA in two symmetric ways: accepting the first roll, or rewording the whole
prompt and re-rolling until the budget dies. Both skip the same two artifacts, a written rubric and
a diagnosis. The loop that converges: rubric before generating, a small batch, a recorded verdict
per asset, the cheapest targeted fix per failure, a hard round cap. Connection and the core loop:
see the `scenario` skill. Critic tool contracts: `scenario-asset-analysis`. Baseline discipline:
`scenario-consistency`. If a sibling skill named here is missing from your available skills, ask the
user to install it (`npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`); unattended, proceed from
tool schemas and flag the gap.

## Quick reference

| Step        | Do                                                                                                                                                                           |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1. Rubric | Before generating, turn the brief into pass/fail lines a viewer can check ("subject centered on a plain field"), never taste words |
| 2. Generate | The smallest batch that tests the recipe, at the cheapest size or quality tier the schema offers on which every rubric line can still be judged; `dry_run` when cost matters |
| 3. Critique | `asset_analyze`: up to 10 images per call, one instruction embedding the rubric and a fixed per-image output shape |
