# scenario-patina-retexture

Retextures an existing 3D asset with PATINA PBR materials over the Scenario MCP server. Vertices, faces and transforms stay as they were; only the shaders change.

## What it does

Point the skill at a GLB or a Blender scene whose surfaces are still flat colors. It writes `inventory.json` and `Before.blend`, sorts materials into physical surface families — plaster, cedar, terracotta, brass — and asks Scenario for one PATINA map set per family. `apply_materials.py` then wires basecolor, normal, roughness, metalness and height into the Blender shaders, asserting a geometry hash so nothing shifts.

Families add up fast. A 41-material diorama needed 14 of them, and each one is a separate generation job. Price the exact payload first with `dry_run=true`: a single 1024x1024 five-map set came to 17 CU at authoring time. Launch with `wait=false` and collect every job id in one `jobs_wait` call.

The local half runs on Blender 4.2 or newer, Python 3 with Pillow and numpy, and ffmpeg for the before-and-after film. No ffmpeg in `PATH` means no film. Scenario access comes from the `scenario` skill; if it is not among your installed skills, add it with `npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Blender

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-patina-retexture -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-patina-retexture -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-patina-retexture -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install scenario-labs/skills scenario-patina-retexture
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-patina-retexture -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills --path skills/scenario-patina-retexture
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-patina-retexture -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/scenario-patina-retexture/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn placeholder colors into PBR materials without touching the mesh
- group a scene's materials into physical families
- get all five maps — basecolor, normal, roughness, metalness, height — per family
- estimate generation cost before spending credits
- render a matched before-and-after comparison along one camera path

## Example prompts
- Inventory the materials in this scene and propose PATINA families for them
- Generate a map set for the plaster family and apply it with `apply_materials.py`
- Render the before-and-after film along one camera path with the same lighting

# Scenario PATINA retexture

## Overview

A mesh whose materials are flat colors or placeholders (an image-to-3D result, a whole diorama)
becomes a PBR-shaded asset in three moves: group its materials into physical surface families,
generate one seamless PATINA material per family on Scenario, and wire the five maps into Blender
materials with vertices, faces, and transforms left unchanged. An optional film renders the original
and the retextured scene along one camera path with the same lights, exposure, and cut, so the
material response is the only thing that differs between the two panels. The film is rendered
locally to present the 3D deliverable, never generated on Scenario, so the skill's output type stays
3D.

PATINA is Patina AI's material family on Scenario (tag `sc:texture`). This skill runs PATINA
Material, the prompt-to-material member; the flat-texture members (Image to Maps, Material Extract)
belong to `scenario-textures`. Repainting a whole mesh with a 3D-to-3D texturing model is the
`scenario-3d` lane; this one keeps per-material control and editable Blender shaders. The agent's
own steps stay on MCP; the bundled scripts (Blender 4.2 or newer, Python 3 with Pillow and numpy,
ffmpeg) do the local repetition and never call Scenario. Connection and the core loop: the
`scenario` skill. If a sibling skill named here is missing from your available skills, ask the user
to install it (`npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`); unattended, proceed from tool
schemas and flag the gap.
