## What it does

The skill hands the agent a retopology plan as data: edge flow, primary and secondary creases, articulation zones, expression bounds and landmarks with coordinates. Everything runs through `scripts/bx_retopo.py`, with coordinates taken in the sculpt's local space. Loops are the budget, not vertices: lids, lips and brows get 3 controls and 2 handle loops each, plus 2 corner loops on the eyes and 3 loops per joint.

Poles sit at valence 3 or 5 where nothing moves. Never on a crease loop, a shell rim or the face centre line. A spiral around the eyes or lips means rebuild; one that ends in a still area is fine. Judge the subdivided surface, not the cage. A snapped cage shrinks inward under subdivision, and a Shrinkwrap offset fixes convex areas while making cavities worse.

Automatic remeshing fits static, scanned, background or bake-only assets. On deforming characters it skips the judgement calls: on the sheep, QuadriFlow at expert density produced no rings around the eyes or mouth and tore a thin ear. The skill leans on `scenario-blender-expert` for the execution channel and review loop, so install that one first. If a sibling skill is missing, the author suggests asking the user to add it with `npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`; unattended, work from tool schemas and flag the gap.

## Requirements
- Works with: Blender

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-blender-retopology -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-blender-retopology -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-blender-retopology -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install scenario-labs/skills scenario-blender-retopology
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-blender-retopology -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills --path skills/dcc/blender/scenario-blender-retopology
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill scenario-blender-retopology -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/scenario-labs/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/dcc/blender/scenario-blender-retopology/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build clean topology from a dense sculpt or scan
- choose between QuadriFlow, voxel remesh and manual retopo
- place loops around eyes, mouth and joints
- set up a Shrinkwrap cage and fix volume loss after subdivision
- prep a low poly for baking and audit topology for spirals and triangles

## Example prompts
- Map this sculpt first: write the edge flow and crease map with coordinates, then build the cage with bx_retopo
- Audit the topology for spirals, 6-poles and triangles and show me the report
- Set up the Shrinkwrap cage so the subdivided surface matches the sculpt

# Blender retopology

Expert retopology is a plan executed with the fewest loops that capture the forms and let the mesh
deform: loops close around eyes, mouth and joints, poles sit where nothing moves, and the subdivided
surface, not the cage, matches the sculpt. An agent without a mouse can build every piece of this
from data, but it reaches expert quality only on the parts it plans explicitly. Automatic remeshing
is a finish for static assets and a start for everything else. If a sibling skill named here is
missing from your available skills, ask the user to install it
(`npx skills add scenario-labs/skills --skill <name>`); unattended, proceed from tool schemas and
flag the gap.

**REQUIRED BACKGROUND:** scenario-blender-expert (execution channel, review loop, 5.2 API changes).
Toolkit: [`scripts/bx_retopo.py`](scripts/bx_retopo.py)
(`import sys; sys.path.append("<skills>/scenario-blender-retopology/scripts"); import bx_retopo as R`),
all coordinates in the sculpt's local space.

## Stance (the expert delta)

- **Map first, as data.** Kaspar draws six layers on the sculpt before any vertex: edge flow,
  primary creases, secondary (expression-only) creases, articulation, expression bounds, landmarks
  (BCON22 [00:07:55], shown in frames 00:07:53 to 00:14:38). The agent writes the same map as
  coordinates and loop counts (landmarks from renders plus `R.surface_point`), then builds.
