## What it does

The skill lays out three database strategies for multi-tenancy: one shared database with a `tenantId` column, a PostgreSQL schema per tenant, and a database per tenant. Each comes with TypeScript and Prisma examples — middleware that reads the tenant from the `x-tenant-id` header, plus a client extension that injects the tenant filter into `findMany` and `create`.

Isolation is covered with PostgreSQL Row Level Security: a `tenant_isolation` policy compares `tenant_id` against `app.tenant_id`, and `withTenantContext` sets the value and resets it in a `finally` block. Billing runs on Stripe: creating a subscription with a trial, switching plans with proration, cancelling immediately or at period end. Webhook handlers cover subscription created, updated and deleted, plus successful and failed invoices.

Usage tracking goes through `createUsageRecord` with the `increment` action, while a `UsageTracker` class buffers metrics and flushes them on a timer. Stripe examples need `STRIPE_SECRET_KEY` in your environment, and schema-per-tenant or database-per-tenant setups need rights to run `CREATE SCHEMA` and `CREATE DATABASE`. If you ship a single-tenant product, none of this applies.

## Requirements
- Works with: Stripe

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add miles990/claude-software-skills --skill saas-platforms -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/saas-platforms/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/saas-platforms/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add miles990/claude-software-skills --skill saas-platforms -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/saas-platforms/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add miles990/claude-software-skills --skill saas-platforms -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/saas-platforms/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install miles990/claude-software-skills saas-platforms
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/saas-platforms/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add miles990/claude-software-skills --skill saas-platforms -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/miles990/claude-software-skills --path domain-applications/saas-platforms
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/saas-platforms/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add miles990/claude-software-skills --skill saas-platforms -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/miles990/claude-software-skills/tree/HEAD/domain-applications/saas-platforms/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick a data layout for serving several tenants
- stop one customer from reading another's rows
- wire up Stripe and keep subscription state in sync
- meter usage per metric and bill for it
- handle a failed invoice and a cancellation

## Example prompts
- Set up multi-tenancy with a shared database, tenant_id column and Prisma filtering
- Add a Stripe webhook handler for customer.subscription.updated
- Build usage tracking with UsageTracker, a buffer and a timed flush

### Database Strategies

```typescript
// Strategy 1: Shared database with tenant_id column
interface TenantEntity {
  tenantId: string;
  // ... other fields
}
// Middleware to inject tenant context
function tenantMiddleware(req: Request, res: Response, next: NextFunction) {
  const tenantId = req.headers['x-tenant-id'] || req.user?.tenantId;
  if (!tenantId) {
    return res.status(400).json({ error: 'Tenant ID required' });
  }
  req.tenantId = tenantId;
  next();
}
// Prisma middleware for automatic tenant filtering
prisma.$use(async (params, next) => {
  const tenantId = getCurrentTenantId();
  if (params.model && hasTenantId(params.model)) {
    // Add tenant filter to queries
    if (params.action === 'findMany' || params.action === 'findFirst') {
      params.args.where = {
        ...params.args.where,
        tenantId,
      };
    }
    // Add tenant ID to creates
    if (params.action === 'create') {
      params.args.data.tenantId = tenantId;
    }
  }
  return next(params);
});
// Strategy 2: Schema per tenant (PostgreSQL)
async function createTenantSchema(tenantId: string) {
  await prisma.$executeRaw`CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS ${tenantId}`;
  // Run migrations for new schema
  await runMigrations(tenantId);
}
function getTenantConnection(tenantId: string) {
  return new PrismaClient({
    datasources: {
      db: {
        url: `${process.env.DATABASE_URL}?schema=${tenantId}`,
      },
    },
  });
}
// Strategy 3: Database per tenant
async function createTenantDatabase(tenantId: string) {
  const dbName = `tenant_${tenantId}`;
  await adminDb.$executeRaw`CREATE DATABASE ${dbName}`;
  return new PrismaClient({
    datasources: {
      db: {
        url: `postgresql://user:pass@host:5432/${dbName}`,
      },
    },
