## What it does

The skill activates on questions about async Rust internals: the `Future` trait and its poll loop, `Pin`/`Unpin` for self-referential types, tokio's task model, async stack traces through tokio-console, waker leaks, and the pitfalls of `select!` and `join!`. The agent gets a structured walkthrough instead of generic async/await advice.

Inside there is a fixed order of work. It starts with the poll model: what `Poll::Ready` and `Poll::Pending` mean and why the waker exists. Then a hand-written `Future` for a delay. After that `Pin` and `Unpin`, with the reason a state machine from `async fn` cannot be moved once suspended. Separate sections cover `tokio::spawn`, `spawn_blocking`, `LocalSet`, and tokio-console: the `Cargo.toml` dependencies, calling `console_subscriber::init()` before the runtime starts, and running with `RUSTFLAGS="--cfg tokio_unstable"`.

One section deals with blocking calls in async context: `std::thread::sleep` and `std::fs` stall a runtime thread, so the fix is `tokio::time::sleep`, `tokio::fs`, or `spawn_blocking`. tokio-console needs its CLI installed with `cargo install --locked tokio-console`. Keep in mind that losing branches of `select!` are dropped right away, so check whether a cancelled branch was holding state you still need.

## When to use it
- understand how the `Future` poll loop actually works
- explain why `Pin` and `Unpin` matter in async code
- find a blocking call that stalls a runtime thread
- read an async stack trace with tokio-console
- track down a waker leak in your own task

## Example prompts
- Explain how the Future poll loop works in Rust and when it returns Pending
- I have a blocking call inside an async function — show me how to move it to spawn_blocking
- Help me set up tokio-console and find the task stuck in Pending

# Rust Async Internals

## Purpose

Guide agents through Rust async/await internals: the `Future` trait and poll loop, `Pin`/`Unpin` for self-referential types, tokio's task model, diagnosing async stack traces with tokio-console, finding waker leaks, and common `select!`/`join!` pitfalls.

## Triggers

- "How does async/await actually work in Rust?"
- "What is Pin and Unpin in async Rust?"
- "My async code is slow — how do I profile it?"
- "How do I use tokio-console to debug async tasks?"
- "I have a blocking call in async — what do I do?"
- "How does select! work and what are the pitfalls?"

## Workflow

### 1. The Future trait — poll model

```rust
// std::future::Future (simplified)
pub trait Future {
    type Output;
    fn poll(self: Pin<&mut Self>, cx: &mut Context<'_>) -> Poll<Self::Output>;
}
pub enum Poll<T> {
    Ready(T),    // computation done, T is the result
    Pending,     // not ready yet, waker registered, will be polled again
}
```

Execution model:
1. Calling `.await` calls `poll()` on the future
2. If `Pending`: current task registers its waker and yields to the runtime
3. When the waker is triggered (I/O ready, timer fired), the runtime re-polls
4. If `Ready(val)`: the `.await` expression evaluates to `val`

### 2. Implementing a simple Future

```rust
use std::{
    future::Future,
    pin::Pin,
    task::{Context, Poll},
    time::{Duration, Instant},
};
struct Delay { deadline: Instant }
impl Delay {
    fn new(dur: Duration) -> Self {
        Delay { deadline: Instant::now() + dur }
    }
}
impl Future for Delay {
    type Output = ();
    fn poll(self: Pin<&mut Self>, cx: &mut Context<'_>) -> Poll<()> {
