## What it does

The skill hands you a document skeleton: owner, last reviewed date, version, severity, overview, prerequisites, numbered procedure with commands and expected output, verification checks, rollback, a symptom/cause/resolution table, escalation contacts, related runbooks and a change log.

A worked example covers PostgreSQL failover to a synchronous replica — replica health checks, scaling application deployments to zero, confirming writes have stopped, `pg_promote()`, a Route53 record update, then bringing the app back up. There are also bash scripts for hitting health endpoints with `curl`, pulling incident logs from Kubernetes, CloudWatch and `pg_stat_activity`, and warning about TLS certificates nearing expiry.

Treat the database example as a pattern, not a drop-in: zone IDs, deployment names and hostnames belong to someone else's cluster and need replacing before you run anything. The certificate script cuts off mid-way through its domain list, so expect to finish that part yourself.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL, Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill runbook-creation -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/runbook-creation/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/runbook-creation/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill runbook-creation -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/runbook-creation/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill runbook-creation -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/runbook-creation/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills runbook-creation
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/runbook-creation/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill runbook-creation -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --path compliance/continuity/runbook-creation
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/runbook-creation/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills --skill runbook-creation -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills/tree/HEAD/compliance/continuity/runbook-creation/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- draft a runbook from a fixed template instead of a blank page
- spell out rollback steps when a procedure goes sideways
- map failure symptoms to likely causes in one table
- record escalation paths and who to page
- prepare log-collection scripts for incident review

## Example prompts
- Write a runbook for failing over PostgreSQL to the replica, using the skill's template
- Draft an SOP for planned cluster maintenance with prerequisites, procedure, verification and rollback
- Build a troubleshooting table for our API and add escalation steps
