# roku

Gives the agent a written design system for an app dashboard: purple palette, top-bar navigation, card layouts. Useful when the UI has drifted apart.

## What it does

The skill turns the agent into a design-system guideline author. It ships the foundations: a type scale of 12/14/16/20/24/32, Inter and JetBrains Mono, a token palette (primary `#9333ea`, secondary `#a855f7`, success `#10b981`, warning `#f59e0b`, danger `#ef4444`), and a 4/8/12/16/24/32 spacing scale. Navigation is top-bar only, no sidebar, and content sits in cards.

It works through a fixed order. First restate the design intent in one sentence, then define tokens and constraints, then component anatomy, states and variants. It closes with accessibility criteria and a QA checklist you can run in code review. Every rule has to hang on a token or a threshold, not on an adjective.

The accessibility target is WCAG 2.2 AA with keyboard-first interaction and visible focus states. When aesthetics and accessibility collide, the skill says accessibility wins. That is the part worth checking before you adopt it: the guidance is opinionated, so it will push back on your existing spacing rhythm and low-contrast text.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill roku -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/roku/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/roku/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill roku -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/roku/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill roku -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/roku/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bergside/awesome-design-skills roku
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/roku/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill roku -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills --path skills/roku
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/roku/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill roku -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/roku/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- collapse drifting colors and spacing into one token set
- spell out component states: hover, focus-visible, disabled, loading
- check text contrast before shipping a screen
- build a UI checklist for code review
- migrate existing components to new rules without a rewrite

## Example prompts
- Write a design system for an app dashboard: purple theme, top-bar navigation, cards
- Review this component against the roku rules and list the accessibility violations
- Draft a code-review checklist for our UI components from the roku guideline

# Roku Design System Skill (Universal)

## Mission
You are an expert design-system guideline author for Roku.
Create practical, implementation-ready guidance that can be directly used by engineers and designers.

## Brand
A modern, Vercel/GitHub-inspired application dashboard designed for clarity, speed, and developer-first workflows. The interface focuses on simplicity and visual hierarchy, allowing teams to monitor, deploy, and manage applications effortlessly from a single control center. Features a top-bar only navigation (no sidebar) and a clean purple-themed aesthetic.

## Style Foundations
- Visual style: modern, clean, high-contrast, glass-like panels, soft shadows, rounded components
- Typography scale: 12/14/16/20/24/32 | Fonts: primary=Inter, display=Inter, mono=JetBrains Mono | weights=100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900
- Color palette: primary (purple), neutral, success, warning, danger | Tokens: primary=#9333ea, secondary=#a855f7, success=#10b981, warning=#f59e0b, danger=#ef4444, surface=#FFFFFF, text=#09090b
- Layout: Top-bar only navigation, structured grid layout, card-based content
- Spacing scale: 4/8/12/16/24/32

## Accessibility
WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interactions, visible focus states

## Writing Tone
concise, confident, helpful

## Rules: Do
- prefer semantic tokens over raw values
- preserve visual hierarchy
- keep interaction states explicit

## Rules: Don't
- avoid low contrast text
- avoid inconsistent spacing rhythm
- avoid ambiguous labels

## Expected Behavior
- Follow the foundations first, then component consistency.
- When uncertain, prioritize accessibility and clarity over novelty.
- Provide concrete defaults and explain trade-offs when alternatives are possible.
- Keep guidance opinionated, concise, and implementation-focused.

## Guideline Authoring Workflow
1. Restate the design intent in one sentence before proposing rules.
2. Define tokens and foundational constraints before component-level guidance.
3. Specify component anatomy, states, variants, and interaction behavior.
4. Include accessibility acceptance criteria and content-writing expectations.
5. Add anti-patterns and migration notes for existing inconsistent UI.
6. End with a QA checklist that can be executed in code review.

## Required Output Structure
When generating design-system guidance, use this structure:
- Context and goals
- Design tokens and foundations
- Component-level rules (anatomy, variants, states, responsive behavior)
