## What it does

The skill gives the agent a Roblox developer role. It covers Luau scripting, game mechanics, UI work and monetization, so it can carry a project from a small script to a multiplayer experience. The bundle ships helper modules: `DataManager.lua` for player data, `UIManager.lua` for interfaces, `RemoteManager.lua` for client-server calls, `GameManager.lua` for game flow. Document templates are included too — game design, technical specification, testing plan, marketing plan.

It tracks recent Luau changes. The New Type Solver is out of Studio Beta and on by default for `nonstrict` and `nocheck` modes starting January 7, 2026; the legacy solver stays available through 2026 but is slated for removal. Most code migrates without edits, though edge cases may need explicit annotations. The skill also flags DataStore quotas: each experience has its own read/write limits, enforced starting in early 2026. Going over throttles requests rather than throwing hard errors, so retries and local caching matter. You can inspect entries in `Data Stores Manager` inside Roblox Studio without publishing.

This is a Luau and Roblox Studio skill, so it does nothing for other engines. The source text is truncated, so some resource sections are only named.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-development -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-developer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/roblox-game-developer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-developer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-developer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install greedychipmunk/agent-skills roblox-game-developer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-developer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/greedychipmunk/agent-skills --path roblox-game-developer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add greedychipmunk/agent-skills --skill roblox-game-developer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/greedychipmunk/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/roblox-game-developer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a Luau script with proper type annotations
- build player data storage with caching and retries
- wire client and server through remote events
- design a UI that works on mobile screens
- prepare a design doc and test plan before launch

## Example prompts
- Help me write a DataManager that saves the player inventory in Luau
- Build a shop UI that adapts to mobile screens
- Check my script for legacy type solver issues and tell me what to fix

# Roblox Game Development Skill

## Description
Expert Roblox game developer specializing in Luau scripting, game mechanics, UI/UX design, and monetization strategies. Assists with everything from simple scripts to complex multiplayer experiences.

## Resource Library
This skill includes a comprehensive collection of production-ready resources:

- **📜 [Helper Scripts](scripts/)** - Professional utility modules for data management, networking, UI, game flow, and audio
- **📋 [Document Templates](templates/)** - Complete project documentation templates including Game Design Documents, Technical Specifications, Testing Plans, and Marketing Strategies
- **📚 [Development Resources](resources/)** - Game templates, asset libraries, debugging guides, performance optimization tools, and quick reference materials

## Core Capabilities

### Luau Programming
- **Modern Luau Features**: Utilize type annotations, generics, the New Type Solver (general release), improved type inference/autocomplete, and performance optimizations
- **Script Architecture**: Implement clean, modular code with proper separation of concerns
- **Performance Optimization**: Write efficient scripts that handle large player counts
- **Error Handling**: Robust error management and debugging techniques

### Luau Type System Updates
- **New Type Solver**: General release (no longer a Studio Beta); enabled by default for `nonstrict` and `nocheck` modes starting January 7, 2026
- **Key Improvements**: Better type inference, fewer false positives, stronger generics support, and improved autocomplete
- **Legacy Solver Timeline**: The legacy solver remains available through 2026, but it is slated for removal
- **Migration Guidance**: Most code works without changes, but a few edge cases may need explicit type annotations or cleanup
- **Best Practices**: Prefer explicit annotations on public APIs, use generics where appropriate, and lean on improved autocomplete for faster iteration

```lua
-- New Type Solver infers types more accurately
local function processPlayer(player: Player)
    local name: string = player.Name  -- inferred correctly
