# reviewer-author-loop

A skill that runs a reviewer, an author and a verifier in a loop over your manuscript. Useful when you need it revised until it passes.

## What it does

This skill turns manuscript improvement into a closed loop. A reviewer agent reads the current draft and returns a decision: accept, minor revision, major revision, reject, or human input required, along with the comments that matter and the criteria for acceptance. An author agent then maps every concern to a concrete edit, touches text, figures, tables, equations and captions where it can, and keeps a response log with the comment, the action, the location and any residual risk. A verifier agent builds or renders the draft, checks citations, numbering and cross-references, and looks for overclaims or contradictions introduced by the revision. The revised draft then goes back for re-review against the same acceptance criteria.

The loop ends when the reviewer recommends acceptance or when only user-preference edits remain. It pauses and asks you when a comment needs new experiments, simulations, datasets or measurements, when scope, novelty or target journal is your call, when a theory cannot be responsibly derived from current evidence, or when you have to pick between mutually exclusive revision strategies. The skill treats private manuscripts and reviewer reports as task-local: their text should not end up in reusable files, examples or public repositories.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --skill reviewer-author-loop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/reviewer-author-loop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --skill reviewer-author-loop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --skill reviewer-author-loop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill reviewer-author-loop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --skill reviewer-author-loop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --path skills/reviewer-author-loop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill --skill reviewer-author-loop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/hanhuark/mechanical-engineering-research-skill/tree/HEAD/skills/reviewer-author-loop/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run a simulated peer review and get revisions out of it
- turn each reviewer comment into a tracked edit in the manuscript
- confirm that revisions actually resolved the comments and broke nothing
- draft a response to reviewers and polish a resubmission
- spot where new data or an author decision is needed instead of another round

## Example prompts
- Run my manuscript `paper.tex` through the reviewer-author loop and list what needs fixing
- Simulate peer review on this draft and draft my response to the reviewers
- Check whether the author addressed every comment from the last round, then decide if we should pause

description: Iterative manuscript improvement workflow where a reviewer agent critiques, an author agent revises, a verifier checks the revision, and the loop repeats until acceptance or a human-pause condition is reached. Use for virtual peer review, reviewer-author revision loops, rebuttal preparation, resubmission polishing, journal paper improvement, response-to-reviewers drafting, and deciding when additional data, experiments, theory, modeling, or author judgment is required before further revision.

# Reviewer-Author Loop

## Purpose

Use this skill to run a closed-loop manuscript improvement process:

1. A **Reviewer Agent** evaluates the manuscript as a skeptical but constructive peer reviewer.
2. An **Author Agent** revises the manuscript and response plan to address the review.
3. A **Verifier Agent** checks that the revision actually resolves the comments and does not introduce new problems.
4. The loop repeats until the reviewer recommends acceptance or the author/verifier reaches a pause condition requiring human input.

This skill is distinct from one-pass peer review. Its value is the revision loop, traceable comment resolution, and explicit stop/pause decision.

## Confidentiality

If private manuscripts, reviewer reports, review archives, unpublished data, grant proposals, or confidential comments are provided, use them only for the current task. Do not copy private text into reusable skill files, public outputs, examples, or repositories. When extracting lessons from private materials, convert them into abstract process rules with no titles, author names, manuscript identifiers, wording, or identifiable facts.

## When To Use

Use this skill when the user asks to:

- simulate peer review and then revise the manuscript
- alternate between reviewer and author roles
- improve a paper until it is acceptable
- prepare a response to reviewers or rebuttal
- decide whether reviewer comments require new data, experiments, modeling, theory, or human judgment
```
