## What it does

The skill walks the code looking for scattered `console.log` calls, unstructured errors and handlers that log nothing useful. Its answer is wide events and structured errors from the evlog library. It works on Nuxt, Nitro, Next.js, TanStack Start, Hono, Express and Fastify, and it also guides setup for SvelteKit, React Router, NestJS, Elysia, oRPC, Effect, Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda, Astro and standalone TypeScript.

Inside are references on wide events, structured errors, a code review checklist and the drain pipeline. Security-sensitive actions get their own section: a typed `audit` field on wide events instead of a second logger. Drain adapters cover Axiom, OTLP, HyperDX, Sazabi, PostHog, Sentry, Better Stack, Datadog, Loki, ClickHouse, NuxtHub and Memory, alongside sampling, enrichers and AI SDK integration.

If you want the CLI, install the package first: `npm install evlog`. The `evlog` executable ships with it, runs as `npx evlog`, and pulls in `@evlog/cli` on demand without adding a dependency to your project. The skill asks before installing anything, so treat `init` as something to preview with `--dry-run` rather than fire off. The manual sections still work when the CLI is unavailable or your framework has no adapter yet.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add evloghq/evlog --skill review-logging-patterns -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/review-logging-patterns/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add evloghq/evlog --skill review-logging-patterns -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add evloghq/evlog --skill review-logging-patterns -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install evloghq/evlog review-logging-patterns
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add evloghq/evlog --skill review-logging-patterns -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/evloghq/evlog --path skills/review-logging-patterns
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add evloghq/evlog --skill review-logging-patterns -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/evloghq/evlog/tree/HEAD/skills/review-logging-patterns/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find console.log spam across the codebase
- turn scattered logs into structured wide events
- add context to errors with `createError({ why, fix })`
- wire a drain into Axiom, Datadog or Sentry
- lock logging coverage in CI with `--min-score`

## Example prompts
- review the logging in this project and show what to rewrite with evlog
- run `npx evlog init --dry-run --yes` and show me what would change
- run `npx evlog map --no-write` and walk me through FIX FIRST

description: Review code for logging patterns and suggest evlog adoption. Optionally use the evlog CLI, shipped with the evlog package (`evlog init` to wire evlog, `evlog agents` to write the conventions into AGENTS.md, `evlog map` to score entry-point coverage, `--baseline` to gate regressions in CI) on Nuxt, Nitro, Next.js, TanStack Start, Hono, Express, and Fastify. Guides setup on those plus SvelteKit, React Router, NestJS, Express, Fastify, Elysia, oRPC, Effect, Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda, Astro, and standalone TypeScript. Detects console.log spam, unstructured errors, and missing context. # Review logging patterns

Review and improve logging patterns in TypeScript/JavaScript codebases. Transform scattered console.logs into structured wide events and convert generic errors into self-documenting structured errors.

## When to Use

- Setting up evlog in a new or existing project (any supported framework)
- Reviewing code for logging best practices
- Converting console.log statements to structured logging
- Improving error handling with better context
- Configuring log draining, sampling, or enrichment
