# review-it

A skill that runs an automated code review before you commit or ship. It checks dirty local changes or a branch against main, in several AI agents.

## What it does

This skill adds a review pass as a closeout step before committing. Inside Claude and OpenCode you call the built-in `/review`; Codex takes `codex review`, and Antigravity CLI uses `/code-review`. Uncommitted work is reviewed directly. For a branch, you build a diff first with `git diff origin/main...HEAD > /tmp/review-it.diff` and hand it over.

The contract matters more than the prompt. Review output is treated as advice, so each finding gets checked against the real code path and neighbouring files. Speculative edge cases, big rewrites and fixes that overcomplicate things get rejected. When a fix lands, affected tests rerun and the review repeats until nothing actionable is left.

Eight focus areas shape the check: hidden side effects, breaking compatibility, edge cases, performance, security, misleading names, thin test coverage and future maintenance load. A bundled helper, `scripts/review-it`, picks the agent automatically and supports `--parallel-tests` and `--dry-run`. It prints `review-it clean: no accepted/actionable findings reported` once the review passes. Run formatting before review, because it moves line numbers. Missing skill files mean the review command has nothing to call, so check the `SKILL.md` path for your agent.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add smallnest/goal-workflow --skill review-it -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/review-it/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/review-it/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add smallnest/goal-workflow --skill review-it -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/review-it/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add smallnest/goal-workflow --skill review-it -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/review-it/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install smallnest/goal-workflow review-it
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/review-it/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add smallnest/goal-workflow --skill review-it -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/smallnest/goal-workflow --path skills/review-it
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/review-it/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add smallnest/goal-workflow --skill review-it -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/smallnest/goal-workflow/tree/HEAD/skills/review-it/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- review uncommitted work before committing
- diff a branch against main before pushing
- run tests and review at the same time
- sort false positives from real bugs by reading the code
- turn the closing review into a short report

## Example prompts
- Review my local changes before I commit.
- Make a diff of this branch against `origin/main` and review it.
- Run review and tests together with `scripts/review-it`.

# CC Review

Run automated code review as a closeout check before committing or shipping. Works across multiple AI coding agents.

Use when:
- user asks for code review / review-it / autoreview
- after non-trivial code edits, before final/commit/ship
- reviewing a local branch or PR branch after fixes

## Supported Agents

| Agent | Review Command | Notes |
|-------|---------------|-------|
| Claude Code | `/review` | Built-in, works on uncommitted changes or diff |
| Codex | `codex review` | Pass diff file or let it auto-detect |
| OpenCode | `/review` | Same as Claude Code |
| DeepSeek TUI | `/review` or manual diff review | Pass diff content for analysis |
| Antigravity CLI | `/code-review` | Built-in slash command, auto-detects diff |

## Contract

- Treat review output as advisory. Never blindly apply it.
- Verify every finding by reading the real code path and adjacent files.
- Read dependency docs/source/types when the finding depends on external behavior.
- Reject unrealistic edge cases, speculative risks, broad rewrites, and fixes that over-complicate the codebase.
- Prefer small fixes at the right ownership boundary; no refactor unless it clearly improves the bug class.
- Keep going until review returns no accepted/actionable findings.
- If a review-triggered fix changes code, rerun focused tests and rerun review.
- Stop as soon as the review comes back clean with no actionable findings.
- If rejecting a finding as intentional/not worth fixing, add a brief inline code comment only when it explains a real invariant or ownership decision that future reviewers should know.
- Do not push just to review. Push only when the user requested push/ship/PR update.

## Review Focus
