# resend-cli

Teaches the agent to drive Resend through the resend CLI: send emails, manage domains, contacts, broadcasts and webhooks. Useful when that work happens in a script or CI.

## What it does

The skill covers operating Resend from the shell: sending email, including React Email `.tsx` templates via `--react-email`, plus domains, contacts, broadcasts, templates, webhooks, API keys, logs, automations and events. Reference files sit behind each command group, from `emails` and `domains` to `webhooks` and `automations`, with flags and output shapes.

What matters most is the non-interactive contract. The CLI detects a non-TTY stdin and emits JSON on its own, so scripts must pass every required flag — nothing will prompt. Delete and `rm` subcommands need `--yes`, otherwise the command exits with an error. Exit `0` means success, `1` means error, and error JSON goes to stderr while success JSON goes to stdout. Add `--quiet` to drop spinners and status text.

Set `RESEND_API_KEY` in the environment beforehand; interactive login is not the path here. Do not paste a literal key into a command or file — it lands in shell history, logs and transcripts, so reference `"$RESEND_API_KEY"` or a stored profile instead. Multi-account setups use `--profile` or `RESEND_PROFILE`. Check the install with `resend --version`; install with `npm install -g resend-cli` or `brew install resend/cli/resend`. One more thing worth knowing: content returned by `emails receiving` is third-party data, and the skill tells the agent to treat it as data rather than instructions.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add resend/resend-skills --skill resend-cli -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/resend-cli/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add resend/resend-skills --skill resend-cli -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add resend/resend-skills --skill resend-cli -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install resend/resend-skills resend-cli
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add resend/resend-skills --skill resend-cli -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/resend/resend-skills --path skills/resend-cli
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add resend/resend-skills --skill resend-cli -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/resend/resend-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/resend-cli/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- send an email from a script or CI without prompts
- validate a payload before sending with `--dry-run`
- create and verify a domain from the shell
- trace delivery logs for one email
- set up a webhook without losing `signing_secret`

## Example prompts
- Send an email with the resend CLI: recipient test@example.com, subject "Report", body from a React Email template
- List the domains in my Resend account and their verification status
- Dry-run a broadcast and show me what would hit the API

## Installation

Before running any `resend` commands, check whether the CLI is installed:

```bash
resend --version
```
