# research-review

Sends your work to an external reviewer — Claude, Gemini, Claude or Claude — for a critical read. Useful when you want outside eyes on ideas, a paper or experiment results.

## What it does

The skill compiles a briefing from your project: it reads `STORY.md`, `README.md`, paper drafts and notes on experiment history, then hands that to the chosen reviewer. The reviewer hunts for logical gaps, unjustified claims, missing experiments and weak narrative. Reviews run over several rounds, and the reviewer keeps its thread, so follow-up questions do not restart the conversation.

By default it routes through Claude MCP with the `gpt-6-astra` model at `ultra` reasoning effort. The reviewer route resolves in order: a `— reviewer:` argument, the `.aris/reviewer.json` file, then the default. An unavailable selected route does not silently fall back to another backend, so check your setup before you run it. The manual backend expects a model from a different family than the executor.

Connect the Claude MCP server first: `claude mcp add codex -s user -- python3 "$HOME/aris_repo/mcp-servers/codex-exec/server.py"`. Swap in your own path. Do not wrap this skill in `/loop`, `/schedule` or `CronCreate` — an external timer re-fires the verdict on wall-clock time and breaks the reviewer's round-to-round memory, so you pay full token cost for zero new signal. Schedule the wait before the review, not the review itself.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/research-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/research-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/research-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/research-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep research-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/research-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/research-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/research-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/research-review/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find logical gaps in a paper draft before submission
- get critique of experiment results from a model in another family
- check whether the contribution is enough for a top venue
- compile experiment history and key findings into one briefing
- run several rounds of follow-up with the same reviewer

## Example prompts
- review my research, the brief is in `RESEARCH_REVIEW_REQUEST.md`
- help me review the paper, start with the methodology
- get an external review of the results in `experiments/`

# Research Review via External Reviewer Backend (ultra reasoning)

> 🔒 **Do not wrap this skill in `/loop`, `/schedule`, or `CronCreate`.** It is
> verdict-bearing — it produces a cross-model review verdict, multi-round with
> reviewer thread continuity. An external timer re-fires the verdict on
> wall-clock time and breaks the reviewer's round-to-round memory: zero new
> signal, full token cost. Schedule the *external wait that precedes it* (work
> ready → then review once), not the verdict. See
> [`shared-references/external-cadence.md`](../shared-references/external-cadence.md).

Get a multi-round critical review of research work from the selected external reviewer backend with maximum reasoning depth.

## Constants

- REVIEWER_MODEL = `gpt-6-astra` — Default model for the Codex backend, reasoning effort `ultra` (deep-audit tier). Must be an OpenAI model (e.g., `gpt-6-astra`, `gpt-6.1-sol`). Manual backend uses a model the user chooses — it must be a recognized model from a different family (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Moonshot/Kimi, Qwen).
