## What it does

The skill runs two stages back to back. `research-refine` first stabilizes the thesis: it keeps the problem anchor, picks the smallest adequate mechanism and holds one dominant contribution. Then `experiment-plan` builds validation tied to the paper's claims. A gate sits between them. If the thesis, the dominant contribution and the rejected complexity are not crisp, planning does not start.

Output lands in `refine-logs/`: `FINAL_PROPOSAL.md`, `REVIEW_SUMMARY.md`, `REFINEMENT_REPORT.md`, `EXPERIMENT_PLAN.md`, `EXPERIMENT_TRACKER.md` and `PIPELINE_SUMMARY.md` with the first runs to launch. When `refine-logs/FINAL_PROPOSAL.md` already exists and still matches the request, the skill reuses it and jumps straight to experiments.

Reviewer slots go through `reviewer_route.py` and `.aris/reviewer.json`, falling back to Codex MCP by default. The `backend=codex` route needs `mcp__codex__codex` and `mcp__codex__codex-reply`; without them the slot returns `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Worth checking your MCP setup before the run rather than halfway through. The skill is built for the full pass — for a single stage, reach for `research-refine` or `experiment-plan` on their own.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-refine-pipeline -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/research-refine-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/research-refine-pipeline/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-refine-pipeline -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/research-refine-pipeline/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-refine-pipeline -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/research-refine-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep research-refine-pipeline
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/research-refine-pipeline/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-refine-pipeline -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/research-refine-pipeline
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/research-refine-pipeline/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill research-refine-pipeline -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- turn a rough research idea into a final proposal
- tie the paper's claims to a concrete experiment plan
- test whether the method really needs a modern LLM or RL primitive
- record which complexity was deliberately rejected
- get a summary listing first runs and main risks

## Example prompts
- /research-refine-pipeline turn my sampling draft into a final proposal and an experiment plan
- /research-refine-pipeline build the pipeline end-to-end: method and experiment roadmap together
- /research-refine-pipeline check whether this needs a diffusion primitive and justify it in the plan

# Research Refine Pipeline: End-to-End Method and Experiment Planning

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their

## Overview

Use this skill when the user does not want to stop at a refined method. The goal is to produce a coherent package that includes:

- a problem-anchored, elegant final proposal
- the review history explaining why the method is focused
- a detailed experiment roadmap tied to the paper's claims
- a compact pipeline summary that says what to run next

This skill composes two existing workflows:

1. `research-refine` for method refinement
2. `experiment-plan` for claim-driven validation planning

For stage-specific detail, read these sibling skills only when needed:

- `../research-refine/SKILL.md`
- `../experiment-plan/SKILL.md`
