# research-add-fields

Appends field definitions to a research outline you already have. Useful when the topic is set but the list of fields to collect is thin.

## What it does

The skill looks for a `*/fields.yaml` file in the current working directory and reads whatever is already defined there. Then it asks where the additions should come from: you type field names and descriptions yourself, or an agent runs a web search for fields common in that domain.

Either way you get a list to review. You pick which fields to keep and set their category and `detail_level`. The skill writes them into `fields.yaml` only after you confirm, editing the file in place.

Invoke it as `/research-add-fields`. No `fields.yaml` in the working directory means there is nothing to extend, so a research outline has to exist first. The web-search branch relies on launching an agent, so in an environment without subagents you are left with manual input.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --skill research-add-fields -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/research-add-fields/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/research-add-fields/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --skill research-add-fields -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/research-add-fields/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --skill research-add-fields -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/research-add-fields/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills research-add-fields
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/research-add-fields/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --skill research-add-fields -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --path skills/research-codex-en/research-add-fields
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/research-add-fields/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Weizhena/Deep-Research-skills --skill research-add-fields -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- add fields to an existing research outline
- find fields that are common in a new domain
- set a category and detail level per field
- update `fields.yaml` without rebuilding the whole outline

## Example prompts
- /research-add-fields
- /research-add-fields — add fields for funding sources and geography
- /research-add-fields, search the web for fields typical of this domain

# Research Add Fields - Supplement Research Fields

## Trigger
`/research-add-fields`

## Workflow

### Step 1: Auto-locate Fields File
Find `*/fields.yaml` file in current working directory, auto-read existing fields definitions.

### Step 2: Get Supplement Source
Ask user to choose:
- **A. User direct input**: User provides field names and descriptions
- **B. Web Search**: Launch agent to search common fields in this domain

### Step 3: Display and Confirm
- Display suggested new fields list
- User confirms which fields to add
- User specifies field category and detail_level

### Step 4: Save Update
Append confirmed fields to fields.yaml, save file.

## Output
Updated `{topic}/fields.yaml` file (in-place modification, requires user confirmation)
```
