## What it does

The skill hands your agent a set of ready calls into Render: list services, pull recent deploys, filter logs by level or status code, and read CPU, memory, HTTP latency and request-count metrics. Databases get their own section — PostgreSQL status, active connection count, arbitrary SQL through `query_render_postgres`, and slow-query lookup via `pg_stat_statements`. Key-value stores are covered by `list_key_value` and `get_key_value`.

A five-step health check sits at the top: service status, latest deploy, error logs, resource usage, p95 latency. Threshold tables come with it. CPU under 70% is healthy, 70–85% is a warning, above 85% is critical; memory flips at 80% and 90%. Latency has its own scale. The skill points to `references/render-access.md`, `references/deployments.md`, `references/metrics-guide.md` and `references/compute-plans.md`, and you are meant to follow the access guide and confirm the right workspace before reading any service state.

Metrics and database queries need MCP. The CLI only covers service status and logs, so without MCP roughly half the skill goes dark. What remains is `render services -o json`, `render logs -r <service-id> --tail -o text` and `render psql <database-id>`.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add render-oss/skills --skill render-monitor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/render-monitor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add render-oss/skills --skill render-monitor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add render-oss/skills --skill render-monitor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install render-oss/skills render-monitor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add render-oss/skills --skill render-monitor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/render-oss/skills --path skills/render-monitor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add render-oss/skills --skill render-monitor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/render-oss/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/render-monitor/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- confirm a service came up after a deploy
- find 500, 502 and 503 errors in logs
- check p95 latency for one endpoint
- compare CPU and memory use against limits
- locate slow SQL queries in PostgreSQL

## Example prompts
- check the health of Render service <service-id>
- show me recent errors in the logs for <service-id>
- what's the p95 latency on /api/users over the last hour

# Monitor Render Services

Real-time monitoring of Render services including health checks, performance metrics, and logs.

## When to Use This Skill

Activate this skill when users want to:
- Check if services are healthy
- View performance metrics
- Monitor logs
- Verify a deployment is working
- Investigate slow performance
- Check database health

## Render Access

Before reading service state, logs, metrics, or database health, follow `references/render-access.md` to establish access and verify the intended workspace. Prefer MCP when available; the CLI can provide service status and logs, while metrics and database queries require MCP.

Before interpreting deploy or health-check state, read `references/deployments.md`.

---

## Quick Health Check

Run these 5 checks to assess service health:

```
# 1. Check service status
list_services()
# 2. Check latest deploy
list_deploys(serviceId: "<service-id>", limit: 1)
# 3. Check for errors
list_logs(resource: ["<service-id>"], level: ["error"], limit: 20)
# 4. Check resource usage
get_metrics(resourceId: "<service-id>", metricTypes: ["cpu_usage", "memory_usage"])
# 5. Check latency
get_metrics(resourceId: "<service-id>", metricTypes: ["http_latency"], httpLatencyQuantile: 0.95)
```

---

## Service Health

### Check Status

```
list_services()
```

```
get_service(serviceId: "<id>")
```

### Check Deployments

```
list_deploys(serviceId: "<service-id>", limit: 5)
```

Follow `references/deployments.md` to interpret asynchronous and terminal states, identify the specific deploy, and verify the workload after it becomes live.

### Check Errors

```
list_logs(resource: ["<service-id>"], level: ["error"], limit: 50)
```

```
list_logs(resource: ["<service-id>"], statusCode: ["500", "502", "503"], limit: 50)
```

---

## Performance Metrics

### CPU & Memory

```
get_metrics(
  resourceId: "<service-id>",
  metricTypes: ["cpu_usage", "memory_usage", "cpu_limit", "memory_limit"]
)
```

| Metric | Healthy | Warning | Critical |
|--------|---------|---------|----------|
| CPU | <70% | 70-85% | >85% |
| Memory | <80% | 80-90% | >90% |

### HTTP Latency

```
get_metrics(
  resourceId: "<service-id>",
  metricTypes: ["http_latency"],
  httpLatencyQuantile: 0.95
)
```

| p95 Latency | Status |
