## What it does

Remotion renders React components into video frame by frame. The code is rarely the bottleneck — the motion is. Left alone, an agent writes linear interpolation, simultaneous entrances and solid-color backgrounds, which is exactly the generic AI video look. This skill sets hard rules: every `interpolate()` gets an easing curve, entrances animate 2–3 properties together, elements stagger by 3–6 frames, and exits run shorter than entrances.

It ships a workflow plus a component library: background mesh, color grade, grain, vignette, Ken Burns for stills, word-by-word text reveals, counters, transitions, parallax and captions synced to speech. Palettes, typography, scene rhythm and sound design live in separate reference files. Timing always comes from `fps` via `useVideoConfig()`, and colors and easings sit in one theme object at the top of the project.

You need Node.js and the `remotion`, `@remotion/cli`, `react`, `react-dom` packages. Rendering also needs a Chromium binary: when the auto-download fails in a sandbox or offline CI, pass the path with `--browser-executable`, and if Chrome throws the Old Headless error, switch to a `headless_shell` build. Verification is not optional here — the skill tells the agent to pull frames with `npx remotion still` and actually look at them before delivering. Among the bugs it walks through: `gap` and `margin` in `em` resolve against the parent font size rather than the text, so large headlines drift apart.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --skill remotion-motion-graphics -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --skill remotion-motion-graphics -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --skill remotion-motion-graphics -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill remotion-motion-graphics
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --skill remotion-motion-graphics -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --path remotion-motion-graphics
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill --skill remotion-motion-graphics -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/haidrrrry/claude-remotion-skill/tree/HEAD/remotion-motion-graphics/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a 1080×1920 vertical video from React components
- add captions synced to spoken audio
- create an intro or logo animation
- composite graphics and a color grade onto an existing mp4
- fix a video that looks cheap and templated

## Example prompts
- make a 20-second 1080×1920 promo with a logo intro animation
- add captions and a color grade to `public/clip.mp4`
- my video looks too generic, rebuild it following the skill rules

# Remotion Motion Graphics

Remotion renders React components frame-by-frame into video. Code quality is not the
bottleneck — **motion design craft is**. Untrained generation produces linear easing,
opacity-only fades, simultaneous entrances, flat colors, and no texture. That is the
"generic AI video" look. This skill exists to prevent it.

## Non-negotiable rules (apply to EVERY composition)

1. **NEVER use linear interpolation.** Every `interpolate()` gets an easing curve;
   every entrance prefers `spring()`. Always `extrapolateLeft/Right: "clamp"`.
2. **Entrances animate 2–3 properties together** (opacity + translateY + scale).
   A lone fade is forbidden.
3. **Stagger everything.** Lists, words, rays, cards: 3–6 frame offsets. Nothing
   enters simultaneously.
4. **Exits exist and are faster than entrances** (~10 frames vs ~20).
5. **Five-layer stack in every scene**, bottom to top: background mesh → assets →
   graphics/type → color grade → grain + vignette. Never a flat solid background.
6. **Every still image gets Ken Burns** (slow scale 1→1.08 + pan). Every video asset
   uses `<OffthreadVideo>`, never `<Video>`.
7. **Idle elements breathe**: anything on screen >2s gets sin-wave micro-motion.
8. **All timing derives from `fps`** via `useVideoConfig()`. No magic frame numbers.
