## What it does

The skill lays out how an agent should touch CloudBase Relational Database through MCP tools. Reads and state checks go through `queryMysqlDatabase`: `runQuery` for `SELECT`, `getInstanceInfo` to see whether an instance exists, `describeCreateResult` and `describeTaskStatus` for tasks still in flight. Writes, DDL and schema setup use `manageMysqlDatabase` with `runStatement` and `initializeSchema`. Permissions are read with `queryPermissions` and changed with `managePermissions`.

It is flagged deprecated, and that is the part worth knowing before you install it. Creating a MySQL instance over MCP is gone: `provisionMySQL` was removed from the action set, a call carrying it fails schema validation, and a missing instance returns `MYSQL_NOT_CREATED` pointing at the console. New environments move to PostgreSQL, which has its own `postgresql-development` skill. Destroying an instance is still supported, but it needs explicit confirmation and a follow-up `describeTaskStatus` check.

When you create a table, the skill requires an `_openid VARCHAR(64) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL` column. The server fills it from the authenticated session, so do not set it by hand on normal inserts. One more limit: inside MCP context you should not initialize SDKs, and `getConnectionInfo` with raw credentials is only for migrating existing TCP clients. New apps should use the SDK, `runQuery` or `runStatement`.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill relational-database-mcp-cloudbase -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill relational-database-mcp-cloudbase -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill relational-database-mcp-cloudbase -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install TencentCloudBase/skills relational-database-mcp-cloudbase
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill relational-database-mcp-cloudbase -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/TencentCloudBase/skills --path skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/relational-database-mcp-cloudbase/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add TencentCloudBase/skills --skill relational-database-mcp-cloudbase -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- inspect table data in CloudBase without wiring up an SDK
- destroy a MySQL instance you no longer need and poll the result
- create a table with the `_openid` column for per-user access
- audit who can read and write a table
- check the status of an in-flight database task

## Example prompts
- show the last 50 rows from the users table with queryMysqlDatabase
- create an orders table with an _openid column and initialize the schema
- check permissions on the orders table and update them

## Sibling skills (local only)

Sibling CloudBase skills ship beside this skill. Use local relative paths such as `../auth-tool-cloudbase/SKILL.md`.

If a referenced sibling skill file is missing from this environment, ask the user to install the full CloudBase plugin (or the missing skill). Do **not** HTTP-fetch remote skill or protocol markdown into the agent context.

## Activation Contract

### Use this first when

- The agent must inspect SQL data, execute SQL statements, destroy an existing MySQL instance, initialize table structure, or manage table security rules through MCP tools.

### Read before writing code if

- The task includes `queryMysqlDatabase`, `manageMysqlDatabase`, `queryPermissions`, or `managePermissions`.

### Then also read

- Web application integration -> `../relational-database-web-cloudbase/SKILL.md`
- Raw HTTP database access -> `../http-api-cloudbase/SKILL.md`

### Do NOT use for

- Frontend or backend application code that should use SDKs instead of MCP operations.

### Common mistakes / gotchas

- Initializing SDKs in an MCP management flow.
- Running write SQL or DDL before confirming the environment already has a ready MySQL instance.
