## What it does

The skill matches the current task description against skills in the registry. It checks practice-profile fit, skips skills that are already installed, and surfaces a suggestion only when the match is strong. Weak matches stay silent.

It loads context from `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` and reads the registry cache from `registry-browser`. It records dismissed suggestions in `references/surfaced.json`, so the same skill is not surfaced twice.

You can invoke it directly after a task or connect it to another plugin through a Stop hook. Automatic hook-based use needs that hook to be declared by the sibling plugin because the connection is not wired by default. Check the notification setting before enabling it: the available modes are All, Matching practice profile, and None.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill related-skills-surfacer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/related-skills-surfacer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill related-skills-surfacer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill related-skills-surfacer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal related-skills-surfacer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill related-skills-surfacer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path legal-builder-hub/skills/related-skills-surfacer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill related-skills-surfacer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/legal-builder-hub/skills/related-skills-surfacer/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find a community skill for the current task
- filter recommendations by practice profile
- skip skills that are already installed
- avoid repeating a dismissed suggestion
- run a skill check when a task ends

## Example prompts
- Check whether the community has a skill for searching this project.
- What other community skills could help with this task?
- After the task ends, check the registry and suggest one strong match if there is one.

description: >
  Suggest community skills based on recent activity in other plugins. Checks
  whether the community has built something relevant to a task and mentions it
  once, non-intrusively. Use when the user says "is there a community skill for
  this", "what else is out there", or asks for skill recommendations; also runs
  passively as part of other plugins' workflows.

# /related-skills-surfacer

1. Load `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → practice profile.
2. Use the workflow below.
3. Check what other plugins have been doing. Match against registry.
4. Suggest: "You've been doing X — community has a skill for Y that's related."

---

## Purpose

The community might have built the thing you're about to build. This skill notices and mentions it — once, briefly, non-annoyingly.

## How it runs

This skill surfaces related community skills after a task. It can be invoked directly by the user ("what else is out there for X?") or wired into other plugins via a Stop hook — the hook-based pattern requires each sibling plugin to declare a Stop hook that calls this skill, which is not wired by default. Without the hook wiring, invoke it directly.

Other plugins can include a light check at the end of a task:
> "The legal-builder-hub found a community skill that might help with this kind of thing: [name] — [one-line]. Want to take a look?"

## Load context

`~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → practice profile, installed skills (don't suggest what's already installed).
Registry cache from registry-browser.

## The match

Given a task description (what the user was just doing), find registry skills that match:

- Keyword overlap between the task and skill descriptions
- Practice profile fit (don't suggest litigation skills to a transactional lawyer)
- Not already installed

**Threshold:** Only surface if the match is strong. Weak matches are noise. Better to surface nothing than to annoy.

## Output

If strong match:
> 💡 The community has a skill for this: **[name]** from [registry] — "[description]". `/legal-builder-hub:skill-installer [name]` to try it.

If no strong match: silent. No output. Don't announce "I found nothing."

## Frequency limit

Don't surface the same skill twice. If the user didn't install it the first time, they saw it and decided no. Track dismissals in `references/surfaced.json`.

## User control

Per `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → new skill notifications:
- **All:** Surface any match
