## What it does

The skill takes a single HTML page and produces 2–8 standalone directions. Each one gets its own HTML file, while `index.html` places the set side by side for review. The `variations.json` report records the rank, token, seed, voice, fit, quality, and fidelity for every direction.

Set the count with `-n`; the procedure starts with `-n 3` when the request gives no count. A saved seed rebuilds the same set, and `--ref house.lock.json` supplies a house reference for an on-brand pass. The seed is required for reproducibility. A direction with fidelity below 80% must not be presented as a selectable option.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Kayforkind/reimagine-it --skill variations -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/variations/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/variations/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Kayforkind/reimagine-it --skill variations -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/variations/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Kayforkind/reimagine-it --skill variations -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/variations/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Kayforkind/reimagine-it variations
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/variations/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Kayforkind/reimagine-it --skill variations -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Kayforkind/reimagine-it --path skills/reimagine-it/variations
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/variations/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Kayforkind/reimagine-it --skill variations -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- explore several visual directions from one HTML page
- compare every direction in a side-by-side sheet
- save each design as a standalone HTML page
- rank directions using quality and fidelity
- rebuild a reviewed set from its seed

## Example prompts
- Run `/reimagine-it variations` on `page.html` and save the review in `review/`.
- Create 4 distinct design directions from `page.html` and place them side by side.
- Regenerate the same set from `page.html` with seed `42`.

  Generate several distinct design directions from one HTML source plus a
  contrast sheet that shows every direction side by side. Use when the user
  says /reimagine-it variations, "show me options", "give me three takes",
  "which direction works best", or wants to compare design directions before
  choosing one. CLI: npx reimagine-it variations -i page.html -n 4 -o review/.

# /reimagine-it variations

**Parent:** [../SKILL.md](../SKILL.md) — the full Content-Derived Design engine. This sub-skill handles only multi-direction exploration.

Generates 2–8 distinct directions from one source plus an `index.html`
contrast sheet that lays them out side by side with per-direction quality,
fidelity, and voice. One seed reproduces the whole set.

## Usage

```bash
npx reimagine-it variations -i page.html -n 4 -o review/
npx reimagine-it variations -i page.html -n 4 --seed 42 -o review/   # reproducible
npx reimagine-it variations -i page.html -n 4 --ref house.lock.json  # on-brand
```

Output per run:

| File | What it is |
|------|-----------|
| `variation-1-<token>.html` … | One standalone page per direction |
| `index.html` | Contrast sheet: all directions side by side |
| `variations.json` | Ranked report: token, seed, voice, fit, quality, fidelity |

## Procedure

1. Run with `-n 3` unless the user asked for a different count.
2. Read `variations.json` back to the user: rank, token, quality, fidelity.
3. Name the *structural* difference between the top two — not just the colors.
4. Print the seed and tell the user how to reproduce the set.
5. Once a direction is chosen, generate it standalone with
   `npx reimagine-it -i page.html -t <token> --seed <seed>`.

## Must not

- Present variations as options when fidelity is below 80% for any of them
- Describe two variations as different if they share a silhouette
- Lose the seed — the set is only reviewable if it is reproducible
- Skip the contrast sheet; side-by-side comparison is the point
