## What it does

The skill reads the watched registries list from `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md`, walks each registry, and matches your query against skill names and descriptions. For GitHub repos it pulls the `skills/` directory listing and the frontmatter of every `SKILL.md`; for marketplace-style registries it fetches the index. Results are cached in `references/registry-cache.json`, so repeat searches are fast. The cache refreshes once it is older than 7 days, or whenever you ask.

Matches come back as a list: skill name, registry, description from frontmatter, plus two options — view the full `SKILL.md` or install. Preview fetches the whole file, so you read it before deciding. Matching is plain keyword search; the registries are small enough that fuzzy search would be overkill. If a registry groups skills by category, you can browse that way too.

Adding a registry takes a URL. The skill fetches it, checks that it is a skills repo (it has `skills/` or `.claude-plugin/`), shows you what is inside, and writes it into the watched list after you confirm. It does not install anything — skill-installer handles that. It also does not rate or review skills: you get the `SKILL.md` and judge for yourself. And it only searches watched registries, not the open internet.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill registry-browser -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/registry-browser/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill registry-browser -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill registry-browser -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anthropics/claude-for-legal registry-browser
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill registry-browser -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal --path legal-builder-hub/skills/registry-browser
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anthropics/claude-for-legal --skill registry-browser -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-for-legal/tree/HEAD/legal-builder-hub/skills/registry-browser/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find a skill for a specific task across several registries
- read a SKILL.md before installing, not after
- add a new skills registry to the watchlist
- see what skills a registry actually contains
- browse skills by category when a registry organizes them that way

## Example prompts
- find a skill for contract work
- what's out there for legal project management
- add this registry to the watchlist: <url>

# /registry-browser

1. Load `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → watched registries.
2. Use the workflow below.
3. Search each registry. Show matches with descriptions.
4. Offer to show full SKILL.md for any match.

---

## Purpose

Find skills across the watched registries. Search, preview, decide.

## Load context

`~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → watched registries list.

## Workflow

### Step 1: Fetch registry indexes

For each watched registry:

- GitHub repos: fetch `skills/` directory listing and each `SKILL.md` frontmatter (name + description).
- Marketplace-style registries: fetch the index.

Cache the index locally (`references/registry-cache.json`) so browsing is fast. Refresh cache if >7 days old or on request.

### Step 2: Search

Match query against skill names and descriptions. Simple keyword match is fine — these are small enough that fuzzy search is overkill.

Also: browse by category if the registry organizes skills that way.

### Step 3: Present matches

```markdown
## Search: "[query]"
**Found [N] skills across [M] registries:**
### [skill-name]
**From:** [registry name]
**Description:** [from frontmatter]
[View full SKILL.md] [Install]
### [skill-name]
[...]
```

### Step 4: Preview

On "view full SKILL.md": fetch and show the whole file. User reads it before deciding to install. No surprises.

### Step 5: Add a registry

If the user has a URL to a registry not in the watchlist:

1. Fetch it, validate it's a skills repo (has `skills/` or `.claude-plugin/`)
2. Show what's in it
3. Add to `~/.claude/plugins/config/claude-for-legal/legal-builder-hub/CLAUDE.md` → watched registries on confirmation

## Default registries

- **lpm-skills** — 14 legal project management skills. Practice-agnostic. Good starting point.
- Space for others to be added as the ecosystem grows.
