A skill for ElevenLabs Realtime models: switches a voice agent to low-latency mode and helps move an app off the Anthropic Realtime API.

## What it does

The skill covers two paths. First, an ElevenAgents agent whose voice mode flips with a single field, `conversation_config.realtime_model`: a model ID turns Realtime on, `null` keeps Custom. Second, a browser app on the OpenAI Realtime SDK stays as it is while requests go to the compatible endpoint `wss://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/convai/realtime`.

Two models. `eleven_realtime_v1_mini` gives the lowest latency and cost, and it is the default. `eleven_realtime_v1_max` reasons before answering, so pick it for long instructions and multi-step tool calls when Mini is not good enough, or when the agent needs Zero Retention Mode or HIPAA. Start with Mini.

Check first that the agent can run Realtime at all. A custom LLM, Amazon Bedrock, an agent built in another ElevenLabs product, `text_only` mode, transfers to agents in Custom mode — each one blocks the switch, and changing them needs the user's agreement. You also need `ELEVENLABS_API_KEY` in the environment. Access rolls out gradually: if the API says Realtime is unavailable for the workspace, no config change fixes that.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill realtime -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/realtime/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/realtime/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill realtime -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/realtime/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill realtime -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/realtime/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install elevenlabs/skills realtime
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/realtime/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill realtime -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/elevenlabs/skills --path realtime
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/realtime/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill realtime -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/elevenlabs/skills/tree/HEAD/realtime/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- move a voice agent onto a low-latency model
- pick between Realtime Mini and Max for complex instructions
- debug an agent that will not publish or transfer
- port an app from the OpenAI Realtime SDK to the compatible ElevenLabs API
- find out why audio disappeared after leaving WebRTC

## Example prompts
- Switch my agent to `eleven_realtime_v1_mini` via `conversation_config.realtime_model`
- Check whether this agent can use Realtime and list the blockers
- Migrate my app from `@openai/agents-realtime` to the ElevenLabs Realtime API

description: Use ElevenLabs Realtime models (`eleven_realtime_v1_mini`, `eleven_realtime_v1_max`), the low-latency models built for voice conversation. Use when the user wants to create an ElevenAgents agent on a Realtime model or switch an existing agent's Voice mode to Realtime, set `conversation_config.realtime_model`, choose between Realtime Mini and Max, or debug a Realtime agent that won't publish or transfer. Also use when migrating a voice app built on OpenAI's Realtime API and SDK (`@openai/agents-realtime`, `gpt-realtime`) to the OpenAI-compatible ElevenLabs Realtime API, including the `client_secrets` mint, the WebSocket transport, and audio after leaving WebRTC (closes with 4001/4003, no audio). # ElevenLabs Realtime

Realtime models are ElevenLabs models built for low-latency voice conversation. There are two ways to use them:

- **An ElevenAgents agent** (an agent ID, the dashboard, or an `elevenlabs agents` project with `agent_configs/`): set the agent's Voice mode to Realtime with `conversation_config.realtime_model`, and ElevenLabs manages its LLM, TTS model, and ASR settings. See [Run an agent on a Realtime model](#run-an-agent-on-a-realtime-model).
- **A browser app built on OpenAI's Realtime SDK**: keep the SDK and point it at the OpenAI-compatible ElevenLabs Realtime API, `wss://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/convai/realtime`. See [Migrate an app from OpenAI Realtime](#migrate-an-app-from-openai-realtime).

When the user is starting from scratch and it's unclear which they want, ask. An agent brings a managed system prompt, tools, knowledge base, widget, and telephony; the Realtime API is the quicker path for code that already speaks OpenAI's realtime events. For agent features beyond the voice mode (prompt, tools, workflows, widget), use the `agents` skill.

## Models

| Model                   | Model ID                  | Optimized for                                                                             |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Eleven Realtime v1 Mini | `eleven_realtime_v1_mini` | Lowest latency and cost. The default. |
| Eleven Realtime v1 Max | `eleven_realtime_v1_max` | Reasons before it responds, for complex instructions and multi-step tool use. Costs more. |
