## What it does

readwise-mcp gives the agent access to Reader documents and Readwise highlights. Its MCP tool descriptions cover semantic and keyword document search, filters for authors, tags, dates, and locations, full document retrieval, highlight creation, and note updates.

The skill also describes document browsing, tagging, metadata edits, moving items, library export to a ZIP of Markdown files, and highlight search. Add the server at `https://mcp2.readwise.io/mcp`; authorization is handled through OAuth on first use. The tools will not work until that authorization is granted.

## When to use it
- search saved documents by topic, author, or tag
- open the full content of a Reader document
- find highlights related to a subject or book
- update tags and notes on saved material
- export the reading library as Markdown files

## Example prompts
- Search my Reader library for material about agent systems and narrow the results to the `research` tag.
- Open the document with ID `<id>`, select its key passage, and attach a note to it.
- Find my highlights about learning, then group the results by document title.
