# react-nextjs-development

Walks a React or Next.js 14+ build through eight phases, from scaffolding to a Vercel deploy. Handy when a project starts from scratch or moves to the App Router.

## What it does

The skill splits frontend work into eight phases: project setup, component architecture, styling, data fetching, routing, forms, testing, and build plus deployment. Each phase pulls in companion skills such as `app-builder`, `nextjs-app-router-patterns`, `react-state-management`, `tailwind-patterns`, `playwright-skill`, and `vercel-deployment`, and hands you a prompt to call them. The stack it assumes: Next.js 14+, React 18+, TypeScript 5+, Tailwind CSS v4, Zustand with React Query, React Hook Form with Zod, Vitest and Playwright.

Read the existing `package.json` and lockfile along with the docs for the framework version you have before picking versions. Caching behaviour, route parameters and server APIs shift between Next.js releases, so guessing here costs time later. For a greenfield project the skill steers you away from Create React App toward Next.js or Vite.

Server Components and UI-level route guards are not authorization. Every server action, route and data access still needs its own check. Keep secrets on the server, validate runtime input, and treat deployment or publication as a separate action that needs explicit approval. The referenced skills are optional pieces you can pull in, not a mandate to scaffold everything and ship it automatically.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill react-nextjs-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/react-nextjs-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill react-nextjs-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill react-nextjs-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills react-nextjs-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill react-nextjs-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --path skills/react-nextjs-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill react-nextjs-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/react-nextjs-development/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold a new Next.js 14 project with the App Router
- split components into layers and add custom hooks
- set up Tailwind CSS v4 with design tokens
- wire data fetching through Server Components and React Query
- build forms with React Hook Form and Zod validation

## Example prompts
- Use @app-builder to scaffold a new Next.js 14 project with App Router
- Use @nextjs-app-router-patterns to set up Server Components and parallel routes
- Use @frontend-developer to create forms with React Hook Form and Zod

# React/Next.js Development Workflow

## Overview

Specialized workflow for building React and Next.js 14+ applications with modern patterns including App Router, Server Components, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.

## When to Use This Workflow

Use this workflow when:
- Building new React applications
- Creating Next.js 14+ projects with App Router
- Implementing Server Components
- Setting up TypeScript with React
- Styling with Tailwind CSS
- Building full-stack Next.js applications

Read the existing package/lockfile and installed framework documentation before selecting versions; Next.js caching, route parameters and server/client APIs differ across releases. Server Components and UI route guards do not replace authorization in every server action/route/data access. Keep secrets server-only, validate runtime inputs, and treat deployment/publication as a separately authorized environment action. Referenced skills are optional available components, not instructions to scaffold, add every library or deploy automatically.

## Workflow Phases

### Phase 1: Project Setup

#### Skills to Invoke
- `app-builder` - Application scaffolding
- `senior-fullstack` - Full-stack guidance
- `nextjs-app-router-patterns` - Next.js 14+ patterns
- `typescript-pro` - TypeScript setup

#### Actions
1. Choose project type (React SPA, Next.js app)
2. Select a supported framework/build tool (for example Next.js or Vite); do not choose deprecated Create React App for a new project
3. Scaffold project structure
4. Configure TypeScript
5. Set up ESLint and Prettier

#### Copy-Paste Prompts
```
Use @app-builder to scaffold a new Next.js 14 project with App Router
```

```
Use @nextjs-app-router-patterns to set up Server Components
```

### Phase 2: Component Architecture

#### Skills to Invoke
- `frontend-developer` - Component development
- `react-patterns` - React patterns
