## What it does

The skill covers `react-native-moq` sessions, broadcast discovery, playback, and publishing from a camera, microphone, or screen. It also addresses data tracks, raw audio chunks, video sources, and the hook-free APIs for projects that need imperative control.

It explains APIs such as `useSession`, `useBroadcasts`, `useVideoPlayer`, `usePublisher`, and `useCamera`, plus the optional `react-native-moq-ui` package. The project needs React Native New Architecture, iOS 16+, or Android API 30+. Publishing only works after the session reaches `connected`; on iOS, an idle microphone capture can block another audio library.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add software-mansion-labs/skills --skill react-native-moq -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/react-native-moq/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/react-native-moq/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add software-mansion-labs/skills --skill react-native-moq -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/react-native-moq/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add software-mansion-labs/skills --skill react-native-moq -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/react-native-moq/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install software-mansion-labs/skills react-native-moq
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/react-native-moq/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add software-mansion-labs/skills --skill react-native-moq -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/software-mansion-labs/skills --path skills/react-native-moq
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/react-native-moq/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add software-mansion-labs/skills --skill react-native-moq -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- connect a React Native app to a MoQ relay
- discover and play a live broadcast
- publish camera and microphone tracks
- share data tracks between a publisher and subscriber
- trace state errors, codec issues, and permissions

## Example prompts
- Review the `react-native-moq` playback code using `useSession`, `useBroadcasts`, and `VideoView`.
- Add camera and microphone publishing with `useCamera`, `useMicrophone`, and `usePublisher`, gated by the session state.
- Debug why `publish()` stops or fails, checking codecs, permissions, and the broadcast path.

# react-native-moq

React Native bindings for Media over QUIC (MoQ): live video, audio, and data tracks with sub-second latency, published to and consumed from a MoQ relay. Built on Software Mansion's moq-kit native library.

**Requirements:** React Native New Architecture (Fabric + TurboModules), iOS 16+, Android API 30+.

```sh
npm install react-native-moq
cd ios && pod install
```

Optional player chrome (fullscreen modal, controls, volume slider):

```sh
npm install react-native-moq-ui @react-native-vector-icons/material-icons
```

iOS also needs `MaterialIcons.ttf` under `UIAppFonts` in Info.plist, then `pod install` again. Skip this package if composing your own player UI on `<VideoView>`.

## Mental model

- A **Session** is one connection to a MoQ relay (`useSession(url)`). It does **not** auto-connect — call `session.connect()` yourself. One session serves both subscribing and publishing.
- **Subscribing:** `useBroadcasts(session, prefix)` lists live broadcasts under a path prefix → pick a `BroadcastInfo` → `useVideoPlayer` / `useAudioPlayer` → render with `<VideoView player={player}>`. Raw-media alternatives: `useAudioChunks` (encoded or PCM to JS) and `useDataMessages` (string payloads).
- **Publishing:** capture hooks produce **tracks** (`useCamera`, `useMicrophone`, `useMultiCamera`) or you generate them (`useDataTrack`, `useAudioSource`, `useVideoSource`) → `usePublisher(session).publish({ path, tracks })`. Screen sharing (`useScreenBroadcast`) is separate and out-of-process.
- Every hook has a hook-free counterpart — `create*` (returns the object plus `destroy()`) for the stateful ones, `subscribe*` (returns `start()`/`stop()`) for the subscription hooks — see [references/imperative.md](references/imperative.md).
- Objects expose reactive state (`session.state`, `publisher.state`, `player.isPlaying`, …); hooks re-render on changes. Subscribe manually with `addListener` or the `useEvent`/`useEventListener` helpers.

## Quick start — watch

```tsx
function Watch() {
  const session = useSession('https://relay.example.com', (s) => s.connect());
