## What it does

The skill walks `.tsx` and `.jsx` files, picks out component definitions, hook calls and context providers, then grades the code across several areas: component composition, hook usage, state management, performance, accessibility and TypeScript typing. React 19 patterns get their own pass — `use`, `useOptimistic`, `useFormStatus`, Actions.

You get a report with findings split into Critical, Warning and Suggestion, each backed by a code example. The instruction runs eight steps: scope the review, analyse architecture, check hooks, evaluate state, accessibility, performance and types, then write the report. For deeper architectural work it hands off to the `react-software-architect-review` agent.

It declares `Read`, `Edit`, `Grep`, `Glob` and `Bash`, so it needs file access in your project. Run the agent without write permissions and some steps stall. The 200-line component and 7-prop thresholds are guidance from the instruction, not a linter rule — borderline cases come back as suggestions rather than errors.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill react-code-review -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/react-code-review/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/react-code-review/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill react-code-review -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/react-code-review/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill react-code-review -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/react-code-review/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit react-code-review
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/react-code-review/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill react-code-review -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-typescript/skills/react-code-review
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/react-code-review/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill react-code-review -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- catch stale closures from missing `useEffect` dependencies
- split a monolithic component into focused pieces
- replace manual `useEffect` + `useState` fetching with TanStack Query or SWR
- find interactive elements that keyboard users cannot reach
- stop unstable callbacks from re-rendering child components

## Example prompts
- review React code in `src/features/dashboard`
- check my React components before I merge this pull request
- run a React code review on the new hooks and accessibility changes

# React Code Review

## Overview

This skill provides structured, comprehensive code review for React applications. It evaluates code against React 19 best practices, component architecture patterns, hook usage, accessibility standards, and production-readiness criteria. The review produces actionable findings categorized by severity (Critical, Warning, Suggestion) with concrete code examples for improvements.

This skill delegates to the `react-software-architect-review` agent for deep architectural analysis when invoked through the agent system.

## When to Use

- Reviewing React components, hooks, and pages before merging
- Validating component composition and reusability patterns
- Checking proper hook usage (useState, useEffect, useMemo, useCallback)
- Reviewing React 19 patterns (use, useOptimistic, useFormStatus, Actions)
- Evaluating state management approaches (local, context, external stores)
- Assessing performance optimization (memoization, code splitting, lazy loading)
- Reviewing accessibility compliance (WCAG, semantic HTML, ARIA)
- Validating TypeScript typing for props, state, and events
- Checking Tailwind CSS and styling patterns
- After implementing new React features or refactoring component architecture

## Instructions

1. **Identify Scope**: Determine which React components and hooks are under review. Use `glob` to discover `.tsx`/`.jsx` files and `grep` to identify component definitions, hook usage, and context providers.

2. **Analyze Component Architecture**: Verify proper component composition — check for single responsibility, appropriate size, and reusability. Look for components that are too large (>200 lines), have too many props (>7), or mix concerns.
