## What it does

RevenueCat posts one normalized JSON payload for every store. The skill walks through receiving that POST, verifying the `X-RevenueCat-Signature` header, and dispatching by event type. Products are already mapped to entitlements on RevenueCat's side, so your backend branches on `event.type` and reads `event.entitlement_ids` instead of keeping its own product-to-entitlement table.

The trap is `CANCELLATION`. That is not an access change — the user turned off auto renew, and access runs until `expiration_at_ms`, so revoking right away cuts off a paying customer. `EXPIRATION` is where you revoke. A resubscribe after expiration arrives as `RENEWAL`, so that branch has to grant access again, not just extend it. `BILLING_ISSUE` is not revocation either: the user may still be inside Google Play's grace period.

Deduplication uses `event.id` as the idempotency key with an atomic insert, because RevenueCat can redeliver the same event. Do the downstream writes in the same transaction as the ID insert, or a crash mid-handler leaves you with a marked event that was never applied. Acknowledge with 2xx as soon as the event is persisted; a slow handler triggers retries. You need an HTTPS endpoint, the webhook secret from the dashboard, and durable storage for processed event IDs and entitlement state.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --skill rc-webhooks -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/rc-webhooks/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --skill rc-webhooks -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --skill rc-webhooks -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install RevenueCat/ai-toolkit rc-webhooks
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --skill rc-webhooks -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --path revenuecat-play-billing/skills/rc-webhooks
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RevenueCat/ai-toolkit --skill rc-webhooks -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/RevenueCat/ai-toolkit/tree/HEAD/revenuecat-play-billing/skills/rc-webhooks/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- receive a RevenueCat webhook and verify its signature
- dispatch events by type without mixing up CANCELLATION and EXPIRATION
- make the handler idempotent on `event.id`
- restore access when a user resubscribes after expiration
- avoid revoking access on BILLING_ISSUE during a grace period

## Example prompts
- Set up RevenueCat webhook handling: signature check, dedup on `event.id`, dispatch by type
- Add a CANCELLATION branch that schedules revocation at `expiration_at_ms` instead of revoking now
- Make the RENEWAL branch grant entitlements again when they were already revoked

# RevenueCat Webhooks

You configure one endpoint. RevenueCat posts one normalized JSON event schema for every store. Your job on the server side is to verify the signature, deduplicate by `event.id`, and dispatch per event type.

## Phase 1: Discover

Confirm what you are wiring up before touching code.

- You own a server side HTTPS endpoint that accepts POST with a JSON body.
- You have the webhook secret from the RevenueCat dashboard under Integrations then Webhooks.
- You have durable storage to record processed event IDs and entitlement state per `app_user_id`.
- You understand that RevenueCat has already mapped products to entitlements, so you branch on `event.type` and read `event.entitlement_ids`. You do not maintain a product to entitlement table on your backend.

Every event has this outer shape:

```json
{
  "api_version": "1.0",
  "event": {
    "id": "evt_01HABCXYZ0000000000000001",
    "type": "INITIAL_PURCHASE",
    "app_user_id": "user_12345",
    "product_id": "premium_monthly",
    "period_type": "NORMAL",
    "purchased_at_ms": 1700000000000,
    "expiration_at_ms": 1702592000000,
    "store": "PLAY_STORE",
    "environment": "PRODUCTION",
    "entitlement_ids": ["pro_access"],
    "transaction_id": "GPA.1234-5678-9012-34567"
  }
}
```

## Phase 2: Plan

Pick the right action for each event type before you write the handler.

| Event type | Meaning | Handler action |
|---|---|---|
| `INITIAL_PURCHASE` | First paid transaction for this user and product. | Grant entitlements in `entitlement_ids`. |
| `RENEWAL` | Subscription renewed, including resubscription after an `EXPIRATION`. | Grant or extend entitlements in `entitlement_ids`. |
