# logo-design

This skill generates 6 to 12 logo variants across different architectures, then refines the chosen one to production. Useful when you need a logo, not a full identity.

## What it does

You get a set of marks rather than one drawing: a wordmark, a lockup of symbol plus name, symbol-only, a letterform-as-symbol, and a monogram. Each variant ships with rationale, application specs, and a clear position on what it signals and what it rejects. The output is decision material, not a finished logo.

The framework rests on five considerations: mark architecture, typographic register, symbol approach, application-context discipline (16px favicon, embroidery, signage, motion), and production specs (SVG-ready, single-color, reverse). The skill asks for the brand name with exact spelling, industry, audience, tonal direction, the application contexts you care about, reference logos liked and disliked, and hard constraints. For a refresh you can hand over existing assets, an existing wordmark, or a palette that stays locked.

If the deliverable is the whole system — logo plus color, type, voice, applications — that is `brand-identity`. Positioning and strategy belong to `brand-discovery`, project-wide aesthetic direction to `creative-direction`. A logo without strategy is just a drawing, so it pays to have audience and tone sorted before you start.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rampstackco/claude-skills --skill logo-design -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/logo-design/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/logo-design/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rampstackco/claude-skills --skill logo-design -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/logo-design/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rampstackco/claude-skills --skill logo-design -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/logo-design/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install rampstackco/claude-skills logo-design
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/logo-design/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rampstackco/claude-skills --skill logo-design -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/rampstackco/claude-skills --path skills/logo-design
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/logo-design/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add rampstackco/claude-skills --skill logo-design -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- produce 6 to 12 logo variants for client review and selection
- refine a wordmark to production: kerning, optical adjustments, weight
- explore symbol options to pair with an existing wordmark
- build a monogram from a longer name for constrained contexts
- adapt an existing logo for favicon, embroidery, signage and motion

## Example prompts
- generate logo variants for Atlas Coffee, restrained tone, audience is office workers
- design a monogram from the name Morgan Northrop for square contexts
- refine the wordmark to production: kerning and optical adjustments

# Logo Design

A logo is a system of marks, not a single drawing. This skill produces multiple production-grade variants exploring different architectural approaches, each with rationale, application specs, and a clear position on what it signals and rejects.

The output is decision material, not a finished logo. The brand owner selects from the variants and the skill produces production refinement on the chosen direction.

---

## When to use

- The brand has a name and tonal direction; the deliverable is logo work specifically
- Generating 6 to 12 variants for client review and selection
- Refining a wordmark to production: kerning, optical adjustments, weight selection
- Exploring symbol options to pair with an existing wordmark
- Designing a monogram from a longer name for use in constrained contexts
- Adapting an existing logo across application contexts (small-size, signage, motion, embroidery)
- The brand owner has reviewed a first round and wants iteration on a specific direction

## When NOT to use

- Use `brand-identity` instead when the deliverable is the complete identity system (logo plus color plus type plus voice plus applications). This skill is the logo-specific layer; brand-identity is the system layer.
