## What it does

The skill gives the agent R expertise: vectors and data frames, factors and lists, the apply family, tidyverse packages. On the stats side it covers descriptive measures, hypothesis testing, regression, ANOVA, time series and machine learning. For plots there is ggplot2, base R graphics, interactive plotly charts and spatial data.

Inside are reference snippets for each area: dplyr chains with filter, mutate and summarise, reshaping with pivot_longer and pivot_wider, joins, stringr operations. Separate sections walk through ARIMA and forecast, randomForest and caret with cross-validation, plus an R Markdown template with output options. Allowed tools are Read, Write, Edit and running `R` and `Rscript` through Bash.

The skill does not install packages for you. Its examples lean on dplyr, tidyr, stringr, ggplot2, forecast, caret and randomForest, so those need to be present in your R environment. Missing one means the suggested code fails at runtime — worth checking `installed.packages()` before you start an analysis.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill r-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/r-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/r-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill r-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/r-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill r-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/r-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install personamanagmentlayer/pcl r-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/r-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill r-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/personamanagmentlayer/pcl --path stdlib/languages/r-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/r-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add personamanagmentlayer/pcl --skill r-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/personamanagmentlayer/pcl/tree/HEAD/stdlib/languages/r-expert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- compute descriptive statistics on a data frame
- plot a distribution with ggplot2
- reshape a wide table into long format
- train a randomForest model with cross-validation
- knit an R Markdown report with charts

## Example prompts
- compute the correlation between age and salary in this data frame
- build a ggplot2 scatter plot with a regression line
- decompose this time series and forecast it with auto.arima
